Exclamation Ruf alloys for a 964.

Hello all, Renlist newbie hear having jumped over the fence from Pistonheads and another site that will remain nameless, although hello all you ex-smartgroup folks especially our leader Dave

Applogies to any folks who have heard this question before however ...........

I have the hots for a set of 17" RUF alloys for my C2. However speaking with the great and good at RUF and the folks in PH, etc. I am told they will not fit. Yet I have seen them on a narrow body 964. How can this be??

Does anyone here have Ruf Alloys on their 964 and how did you get them to fit.

Many thanks Andy

Andy,

Maybe you don't want to hear from me, but I don't recall seeing any posts on the PH Porsche forum otherwise I'm sure I would have responded.

The wheels which Ruf produce are specifically for the turbo bodied cars (according to their web site) and I suspect that means that the offset isn't best suited to the narrow bodied cars. Unfortunately, they don't quote the ET figure on the web site otherwise we'd know. I know Brian MacLellan has a set fitted to his Ruf tuned Jubilee so I'll ask him if he has any more information.

If the ET is >40 you could get away with some suitably sized spacers but there is a chance that may not be the case. I'll ask Brian and get back to you.

Regards

Dave

I don't see why not if you get the right offsets. The 8x17 and 9x17 should be fine. Make sure you use a tire calc to figure out your sizes. You should ask them if the rims can be fit with spacers. I have Speedline Ruf 18" and don't need spacers, clearance is minimmal but have no rubbing issues.

I noticed that the Ruf 18" specifically say 964 in the description.

Hi, Welcome to RL.

Both users Rushjob and KirkF have RUF wheels on their 964's so you could always contact them for sizes and offsets - other people here do too, I'm sure but I can't think of any others at the moment.

Didn't Phil Raby also have a set of Ruf 17inchs on his narrow bodied 964?

Andy, try a search......

Default RE: Ruf 17's

I've got Ruf 17 by 8's and 9's on my '90 C2. Wheels fit perfectly without spacers.......but, rub against front inner fender liner (I assume) because of my use of H & R sport springs (model # 29834) and Ruf shocks. H & R sold those as as being for the first of the 964 turbo's. In the interest of reducing the interference (@ full lock or full susp. compression) I put on 6.5mm spacers in front. No benefit from those - still getting interference in the situations mentioned. I think my issue is all about ride height and not an issue with Ruf wheels. They fill out the wheel well perfectly - longitudinally. Offset is spot on.

I thought Ruf would sell either or both of their wheel styles in 17", 964 approved fitments. Aren't those configs detailed in .pdf 964 accessories catalog ?

Please post what you learn !

Tony- Love the wheels but I thought those were 18s? I think what he wants to use are the 17s that were on the Yellowbird.
FWIW I've never seen the Yellowbird 17s on a 964 but have seen them on plenty of 930s.

I have the 17s on mine. The offset I have is ET 56.7. They require spacers. I think I am using a 10 mm spacer on the back, and no spacer on the front.

Indeed Phil Raby did run a C4 in 911 and Porsche World fitted with 17" RUF alloys.
The 17" wheels fitted on the Yellow Bird are a different design and are not compatible with the 964 suspension geometry.

The wheels fitted to my car above are the actual wheels that were fitted to Phil Rabys car and are 17inch

I have the offsets somewhere.

Wow, what a great response. I just need to digest all the information and will respond soon.

My life is now filled with hope, although I am kicking myself for not bidding on a set of 17" RUF on e-bay a couple of month back because of the information given to me by RUF (Alex)

For information mine has also been lowered and has H&R springs, so judging from the comments should not pose a problem.

Many thanks Andy

Using the RUF wheels 225/255 tyres in the pic the clearance to the fender lip was very close even using RS/track camber settings and enthusiastic driving on track caused the wheels to hit the rear swing arm, oil line and inside wheel arch (front and rear)
