Default Toyo Proxes RA-1 Tires - size question.

I'm going to be buying a set of Toyo Proxes RA-1s to put on my stock rims in the next couple of weeks. Should I just go with the stock sizes (I think that's 205/50-17s on the front and 255/40-17s on the rear), or should I push the sizes up on those rims since they are only used for auto-x and track?

Also, everyone who has mounted tires on those rims for me have said they are extremely hard to mount. With the nice paint on them, I'm alittle nervous about having joe tire guy mount them. Is there any guidance I can give them for mounting these tires that will help?

I stayed with the standard sizes for track use and was not disappointed.
I usually travel extra distance to have my track tires mounted by a race shop and not the closest garage/tire dealer.

I just called Radial tire here in Silver Spring, and the guy there recommended going with 235/40 in the front isntead of the 205/50. He was recommending staying with the standard 255/40 in the rear. Does this seem reasonable? These guys have a pretty good reputation in the community for working with the PCA guys and doing stuff on Porsches.

A 235 will be a tight fit in a C2. My car came with 235s, rolled fenders and rubbing issues. A 225 fit without issue. All the cars are slightly different and the amount of camber you run matters too. The only way to know for sure is to try it.

What widths are your wheels? I rolled my front fenders, and 245's fit fine up front, and 275's in the rear (I have 8x9.5x17 wheels)

Also, where are you buying the tires from?

What camber are you running?

205s are a little annemic, I think you will want a little more tire up front.

Ideally you would want a 225 on a 7", 235 would work well on an 8".

But since you have the stock 7s and 8s, and toyo does not make a 225 in 17" for the RA1s, you should be ok with a 235/40 on the 7" rim. Its a little wide, so you will have a little ballooning of the sidewall, but wont be real bad. The toyo RA1s are not abnormally wide for their specified size (Hoosiers have a very wide cross section for their given tread width).

Did the 235/40 work for you?
