How much wt dose that really save?If it failed at speed well"that's goin to leave a mark".I know in my case one of the best ways to ligthen my car would be for me to loose the weight.

It's probably safer to run with 1 quart less of oil and the weight savings would be the same! Plus, that might have more air resistance as it's spinning?

But as Jeff said, the driver losing weight is probably better safety wise, and health-wise, too!!!

I was able to shed 30 pounds... I had major dental surgery... give it a try.

Seriously, I would look elsewhere for reduction... that simpy does not look safe...

If you have a look into your Porsche book library, you will notice that Porsche has done on their race cars in the 70s, too. Even in endurance racing on 917s.
When I did it on my 911, I had no problems with cracking while using the car on track.
At that time I even had the org. rotors crossdrilled with no problems.

If Porsche raced it then I would trust it - I would make sure it was done using the same method, etc. Still looks crazy to me... : )

Just because Porsche did over 30 years ago does not make it safe today's standards.. By that reasoning we should all take the wings off our track cars because the factory did not use them back in the 60's. Seriously, safety devices, technology and car prep have evolved so much since back then, heck they did not even wear seat belts in race cars in the 40's. Do you know how often Porsche had to change rotors on the 917 when these used that method? I have no idea myself but I would bet they changed them during races.

The 917 probably weighed a lot less than a 964, and probably had better airflow to the rotors... if they did that to 964 cup cars, then it would make more sense to do this modification on our 964's... that's how I'd think about it!

I personaly wouldnt do it but Its probably safe.

Wouldnt that be unsprung wieght? form memory isnt 1lb of unsrung weight lost as benefficial as 4lb anywhere else?

First off, I wouldn't use hydrogen. When mixed with the right stuff, you can get an explosion.

However, I actually read an article that talked about filling tires with nitrogen. The nitrogen diffuses much more slowly through the rubber of the tires, and therefore the pressure will hold for a much longer period of time.

So, if any of you have nitrogen sources at home, fill away with nitrogen.

BTW, I'm a chemical engineer......But I still use regular old air in my tires
