If you are thinking of useing the stock amp you need to pick a head unit with outputs to the amp .
If you get a head unit that has an amp built in and no pre amp outputs , thats not going to be so good .
I would get rid of the stock amp , its old and the head units come with good built in amps , if you go that way . But then again getting rid of the stock amp will cause you to do more work , wires .

After a bit of info I got from a member here, it looks like what I thought was an amp, under the seat is probably just alarm electronics. So now it looks like I do not have an amp under the seat. I guess that’ll make things a little easier?

I don't know what it is. But I was told chances are it is not an AMP and more likely alarm or something other than an amp. If you have any further information that could prove useful, I would appreciate it, since it seems as though you are skeptical.

You need to find what is really under your seats , the boxes have labels on them . Its just part of learning the car you have .

Not all cars , years , have the same stuff under the seats so I think that you need to look at your car to find what is under its seats .

My 89' c4 has the blaupunkt amp under the seat as in the linked photo, it was already bypassed when i installed a new Clarion CD/MP3 unit. The other boxes are control units for spoiler, alarm and central locking (depending on model year).

Something to consider - the new deck I installed has a clear plastic display panel, which in daylight conditions has so much glare as to make the display unreadable. I would look for a deck with a display that has a non-glare finish like the factory units.

Yes - the black box with graphs printed on it, and the yellow sticky that is covering up the Blaupunkt logo. My amp was in the same location as the image shows, but oriented 90 degrees counter clockwise from what you see. The big black plug going in the side is a DIN cable from the stereo, the other wires are for speakers and power.

FWIW I had no trouble removing the seat, only had to remove 4 allen bolts, though to identify the amp you may be able to just look under the seat for the connections.
