Default Mobil 1 Oil Filter

Has anyone used one and any views as compared to Mahle, Mann, K&N, etc.?

I've used them for the past three years and am very pleased with them. I can't compare them with the others you mentioned - don't have experience with them. The Mobil 1's just make sense to me - heavier casing and designed for the oil I use.

Hi Bob,

What specific information are you looking for? Pressure performance, filtering performance?

i had seen a thread a little while ago about these...seem to remember the consensus being that Mann, Mahle or Bosch were the way to go because of anti-drainback valves and flow rate issues with M1 filters...correct me where i am wrong, but that is what i remember reading...I've never tried the M1, always used Mann filters.

I've got to ask...if one is using any of the qaulity brand filters and doing regular oil changes, does the filter really play a large role in longevity?

I've been using the Wix brand filter as they are available locally, cost about the same as mail order and they are a known quality filter. I change the oil every 3000 miles. Can I really be missing out on something by not buying a different brand?

How does one tell which brand is best? While I agree that I do associate heft with quality, the weight of the Mobil 1 or K&N filter could simply be the mounting nut welded to the case and not due to the filter material itself being of substantiated quality.

Wix
"This could allow dirty oil to seep from the dirty side to the clean side of the filter, bypassing the element." ?

That is a good review of filters. One thing I observed is that the Wix filter is apparently one of the better filters, and other than what you mention, it would be very satisfactory.

Indycam, thanks for the link. Interesting to note. I'm not sure I feel that the amount of oil that could bypass the filter is of overall consequence however I'll keep in mind next time I buy filters.

I have an M1 filter on mine now, and I am overdue for a change. Send me the address, and I will pay for packing and shipping.

I was told in no uncertain terms to use only OEM oil AND air filters.. why mess with what the factory specified?

Good to be back....

there was another thread where Steve from Rennsport said he had a bag full of blown filters and only to use OEM, Mahle, Mann,etc...i would defer to his expertise on this...he know's what he's talking about.
