Default Pls check your oil tanks and tell me what you see?

All,
I had the Oil FIlter-Oil Thermostat oil line replaced last year, no problems to report.

However I was cleaning the crud out of the wheel arches this weekend and noticed that the oil line is kinked where it goes into the metal swaging at the oil thermostat end.

I am wondering whether the line should go behind the oil tank or in front of it as mine has been fitted.

Could you indulge me and have a look when you are next in the proximity of your o/s rear wheel arch?

I attach photos the kink can be seen highlighted in the attached photo, other photos show the position of the oil line. I am concerned as this is the main return line for oil from the engine back into the oilt tank and any restriction in flow is not good!

Thanks,
Kevin.

Mine goes in front just like yours, but it doesn't have any crease in the line.

Mine doesn't have the metal swaging at that location either.

Your hose looks a little different than mine, and I replaced all these hoses with Porsche hoses a couple weeks ago. Is that original?

Guys,
Thanks for the feedback and pix. The oil line was replaced by a local specialist here in the uk and is supposedly a porsche original part, however looking at your hoses I am beginning to doubt this. The swaging on my hose appears to extend further up the line than both your pix.

I will get them on the phone in the am and see what they have to say, they certainly charged me enough, I think the oil line was around £200 on the invoice.
Thanks,
Kevin.

Steve,
Problem solved, a pattern part had been fitted.

Specialist has now fitted genuine Porsche part and my oil line now looks very much like yours (except mine is dirty because I, sadly, don't live in California and we are still putting salt on the roads here in the UK-and it's March!

Thanks for taking the time to help, Rennlisters once again prove what good people they are,
Cheers,
Kevin.

Good, I am very suspicious of using non-Porsche parts on my car, unless I can confirm equivalency. I do the same on all my cars and my kids cars. I buy factory most of the time.

Sorry to bump an old thread guys...

Does anyone have any recent experience of buying this oil line, OEM vs Porsche?

Be great if any of the UK guys had an input too

Price difference is huge, but there's no point me buying OEM if the quality is poor.

Thanks
Chris

I replaced mine a few years back with parts from Elephant Racing. Had local hydraulic shop do the crimping. Total cost was less $100.00
I see you are in the UK, but should be able to source the hose and crimp collars locally.
HERE is a link to Elephant Racing. I used the "Black cloth braided" hose.
PS. Used the ends from the old hose to make the new one.

I just replaced mine over the weekend with a genuine Porsche line. I was scared off from everything I read about OEM also. The new line did not crease or kink for what it's worth but it did cost a pretty penny (I found Pelican had the lowest price stateside) . I was in a time crunch to get it done. I will be replacing the lines from the cooler to thermostat this summer and will most likely be going the route that crg53 stated. I've heard nothing but good things about the lines Elephant racing makes. They will make the line for you if you don't have a trusted hydraulic shop local (this was my case) I just didn't have the time to ship my line out, have them fit a hose to my fittings and ship it back.

Loved your thread on how you had those hoses made. I read it a little while back and tried a company in the UK to do the same.

Main problem for me was that the original ends were too badly corroded to re-use.

The shop has tried twice now to re-design the ends, but I get a little oil pressure light flicker when I dip the clutch to come to a stop and its doing my head in!

Time to invest in some proper Porsche rubber!

Thanks

Chris

FWIW,.....

For me,.....factory Porsche hoses ONLY on street cars. Race applications is a totally different subject.
