For me it was the classic lines of the 964. The 993 just doesn't do it for me... Nor does the 996. As JohnO stated though... I think the 997 is hot. Especially when it has been set up with a ground effects kit, lowered etc. Some may say that the 993 and the 997 look similar... To me they are miles apart and I don't see that connection.
It's all in what YOU want. The 964 has the more classic lines and has an edgier feel.(IMHO)

That being said I am probably going to buy an RSA for Club Racing in the next year or so mainly because the RSA is easier to setup for the track.

See, even an SC can pass a 993 given the right circumstance!

When my Porsche mechanic, very experienced guy, early fifties, works on Porsches during the 24H of Francorchamps etc, gave me my keys back after he took it for a test drive his words were: "It's such a beauty". I had exactly the same idea when I saw him driving with the car, doesn't happen often you see your own car driving around. The girl at the reception also said it looked so good, almost sounded like some bizarre conspiracy.
The question I asked myself when I bought the 964 was this "Will I be happier in a 993 with the large but now reducing premium?" Probably not.

I just feel that the 964 has that classic MEAN look, instead of the GIRLY appearance of the 993.
Yo, 993-ers, this IS the 964 board, so what would you expect!

There's a 10K difference between the 964 and 993. For that money, you can put alot of performance and asthetic enhancement on the 964.
BTW, I am in the boat of trying to decide whether to sell my "just rebuilt" 964 for a 993.

Anthony,
I know what you mean. I am in the middle of rebuilding my 964 and I am himming and hawing over a 95 993.
Problem is they are both beautiful cars. (although the 993 is not in 5 million pieces so it is currently more beautiful.) haha

I like the classic look of the 964 better, however I really like the wide body part of the 993.
There is no mistaking it's 911 look at any angle, you can with a 993. If I did a lot of driving, I think my next step would be a 996..... Nicest machine I've ever driven.

i like the 964 body too,
the 993 looks like an overweight frog, the way the fenders protrude out does not flow smoothly, looks like celulite in the fenders and quarter panels. look at 964 torbo body or even 964 narrow body and it looks great flows nicely from the body out to the tire edge. the 993 has a nice *** but the front looks a bit flat chested to me and not proportionate. there i said it

Hmmmm..... I've passed a few.
As for club racing, It's about time Harvey !!! You might want to find a 964 RS ( US Cup) rather than a RSA though. You and Forklift will both be welcome additions.

I miss the classic headlights on my 993. In every other aspect the 993 is great and not really an ugly frog...
The 993 was my first Porsche and I was scared about these maintenance rumors. After ownership and better insight into the Porsche world for almost two years I feel relaxed. Retrospectively, I would dare to go for my dream of a 964 Turbo or 930.
Right now, I dream of getting a not-really-concours 964 C4 for winter time in combination with good winter tires. I believe the set up with three differentials and of these two lock-able must amount to hilarious fun in the snow and new experiences. Well, maybe next year...
Best regards,
Felix
