Default Weight difference between a C2 and RSA (loaded)

I am going nuts searching all of the archives trying to figure this out. I know the factory weight is 3,031, but was that for a C2 and a loaded RSA? My RSA has the LSD, stereo, a/c (damn it!), and sunroof (damn it!).

Even w/ the a/c, stereo, and stereo, all RSAs are w/o power steering, rear seats, rear windshield wiper, have the RS door panels, but add some weight back with the tail, storage compartment, and 17" wheels. I might have missed something, but I *think* the RSA off the showroom floor was slightly lighter than the C2 even if loaded? Is the factory weight w/ a full tank?

Thanks!

P.S. Thanks to everyone who has helped me w/ my weight loss project, especially JC.

If it helps. My RSA weighed 2854 on a PCA scale with a half tank. Secondary bypass, no sunroof, but all the other goodies.

Ok thanks. My guess is your car w/ a full tank would be around 2,980 (gas 60, bypass, 20, sunroof 44).

I have heard RSA is only 80 lbs lighter than equal C2. Not sure though. I do know the rear storage box is about as heavy as the rear seats. The rear package shelf with speakers is a bit of weight for the C2, but not much I have seen RSA with rear shelf and speakers from the factory as well.

I imagine the 94 RSA is real close to the weight of the C2

The tail is a lot heavier than the electric tail. I know because I just weighed them.

I doubt the non power mirrors even weigh a pound including wiring.

Thanks Pete, I am trying to figure out if the weight my shop gave me yesterday is correct. It was 2,845 w/ a 1/2 tank. By taking that weight and adding back what I have taken out, it looks like 3,031 might be close. Still not sure though.

Does anyone know what the manual cranks weigh compared to the electric windows?

Several articles of the time reported that the base RSA weighed 78-79# less than the base C2. The A/C equipment weighed just under 50#, and the radio less than 10#. I don't know about the weights of the LSD or the sunroof, but a fully optioned RSA was just a few pounds lighter than a base C2. My RSA weighed 2920# with a half tank of gas. It had cat and primary muffler by-passes, no rear shelf (about 24#, I think), cone air filter (no OE air filter box), but did have a roll bar (40#). Your 2845# weight with those 4 options and a half tank of gas seems very light to me. I think the factory figures are normally with a full tank.

Hi Jim,

Congrats on the Cayman. Look forward to seeing it at VIR.

That weight could be close as I have removed/replaced the following, Sparco seats in, cat and primary bypass, all sound insulation out, rear shelf gone, engine tray gone, trunk carpet gone, a/c compressor gone, cone filter with the roll bar back in. I will also be pulling the airbags and the rest of the a/c junk and maybe a L/W battery I am putting the stock air box back on. After I do that I will get it corner balanced again with a new weight.

That's quite a weight reduction program, so the weight you reported makes sense. I forgot to mention that I didn't have the engine tray (oil drip catch panel) on for the weighing either. Seems like you've taken most of the excess weight off. Light weight body panels and glass replacement next?

There should be at least two Caymans at the Zone 2 VIR DE; a yellow one from Ohio (Hal's), and a silver one from VA (mine). Hope to see you there, and look over your RSA too.

I think it was posted the manual windows are around 6 pounds lighter than power.

I guess the moral to this story is the RSA is not a light weight compared to C2

I'll be weighing my car soon, and I'll post the results. Here's what I've done: (1990 C2 w/ 17x8x9.5 cup car wheels).

Removed:

-Rear carpet, speakers, rear shelf, sound deadening material and seats
-LW battery
-Primary bypass
-trunk carpets
-replaced original air box with cone filter
-Fog lights
-added fire ext (about 8 lbs)

soon to remove passenger airbag and replace steering wheel w/ momo

stay tuned...

I put my 1990 C2 on the scales at Roeblng Road recently. Here is the printout:

LF 630
RF 637
LR 899
RR 898

Total 3064

The car had a fulll tank of gas. The car is a 5 speed, LSD, sunroof, AC, and sport seats, which approximates what you are comparing as far as a RSA goes. Secondary bypass, Fabspeed cat by pass, and a strut bar. Full tank of gas, 16" D90's. The floor mats were removed. The spare, tool kit, etc. were still in the car.

Does that help??

I've also removed the engine tray and rear wiper, and sound deadening up front.

Went to the highway weigh station:

2,876 lbs w/ about 1/2 tank of gas

12/07/05 Corner Balance 3178.00 (1/2 tank)
Rear Seat Removal -14.00
Spare Tire -29.00
Tool Kit and Pump Kit -9.50
Jack -3.50
Secondary Muffler -22.80
Total Weight Reduction 78.80

Total Weight =3099.20

This is an '89 C4 (no airbags) w/ CupII's, Strut Brace, and Bilstien/H&R.

Since then, I have switched to race seats, and boy those stockers are super heavy.

Has anyone weighed their stock seats. I'm not sure if 964/993 stock seats are similar, of if the 1/2 power vs. full power are much different in weight.
