I have the 965 turbo set up on my C2 with the 60 valve and it works well on track. Sounds interesting to run with no valve though...how have you done that? Is there a by-pass part or have you made one Garrett?

Hey Thomas, haven't heard from you in awhile!

You say that you are using the 965 rear calipers? ...is there a lot of space when you retract the pistons and put in new pads?? ...any issues associated with using the "wide" caliper?

How about this setup?

322x28 rotor with a 993RS rear caliper (36/32 pistons I believe) 993TT rear calipers have 28/28 pistons.

Yeah, UNBELIEVABLE setup...the price of those calipers is a bit too "rich" for me though...not to mention the two piece rotors - Niiiiiiiice.

I'll stick with the $700 idea - I think that will buy ONE of your calipers.

no issues at all with the calipers and I ran the rear pads down to the metal once and the pistons and the pads were still rock solid in their positions. We discussed this before and I can't really see how 2 mm per side could do any difference (even if I know it's "wrong" by the book)

There was a guy selling both front and rear 993 ones on Ebay the last couple of weeks for not much more then $200 with used rotors in front and rear sets. He maybe someone on the 993 board. Havent looked on there this week to see if he still was selling. I know they didnt sell the first auction and price was lowered the second time I saw them on there. They were the silver ones by the way.

Hmmmm, I would be interested in finding that auction. Does anyone know how to get in touch with Chris Walrod to powdercoat them? I know he's on the racing boards, but he apparently has a business that does this?

The rear RS calipers are much better in general. The 993TT rears are sometimes 30/28, and sometimes 28/28. Porsche seemed to use them interchangably, with no different part number, year, or any way to tell what is on a car unless you look...

Thanks Jim, maybe I'll drop him a line to see if he'll sell just the calipers...I don't wanna pay shipping for those boat-anchor rotors (useless to me)...they're HEAVY!

ViperBob, the 993RS calipers are just out of reach for me financially, trying to balance the budget here without going nuts on parts...just found out a part that I need for my transmission is 3 times more than I had planned for!

Jeff- The only way you are going to get the correct caliper for your purposes is:

1) Machine a rear 965 caliper that is red to begin with

2) Paint a rear 993 caliper red

Myself, I would go with #1, but I would check with VCI to check if chipping of the paint is an issue during the machining process.

I personally would not take the chance that the 2mm problem would never be an issue since if the pistons do pop out or leak that could be a disaster.

Are those Alcon or AP discs?
Are you running 330 X 32 front discs?
Are those full floating or solid mounts?
What was your source for the adaptors?
Is the parking brake built into the rear?

There is a picture of them machining the rotors ($400/pr) in the link I provided earlier.

The disks are AP Racing disks. Solid rotors, not floating. My fronts are 332x32. I had to remove the parking brake assembly and cut part of the aluminum arm that supported the parking brake. The kit is a Wrightwood Racing kit and I got it through one of his distributors.
