Default Replacing wishbone bushings, please help!

Hi
I am installing Powerflex bushings on the front wishbone of my 964 turbo.
I have removed the wishbone and managed to to get the old bushings out (ooouh, don't ask me how).

Have serious problems with getting the Powerflex bushings in there, tried a number of things and are stuck. Not sure how much of the old bushings to re-use, not sure if the steel inserts in the wishbone should stay or not.

Did a search on this forum and found that this procedure is explained in an 911 Porsche World article, 2004 june issue, that I don't have.

Anyone managed to do this ?

Staffan,
You have to remove ALL the old bush. Dont get keen on cleaning out the corrosion left in the wishbone.
Fit the new bush and check it is a snug fit. If not put some Locktite on the outside of the bush.
Dont forget to put some of the supplied lube up the bush center before pushing the pin in.
I dont remember what issue of P&911 World this was in but it would be a good idea to get hold of a copy !

Thanks Geoff!
So I should remove the really tight steel insert from the front mounting on the wishbone ?
It looks really hard to get out and doesn't look like it should be removed, how did you remove it, looks like I need to use a saw ?

The inserts on the rear mounting seems to be in 2 halfs and easier to remove, looks removable eventhough I am concerned the wishbone mount is going to be "to big" in the middle. Think I am going to need a saw for this one as well.

Just to clarify, on the rear mounting, the only steel used is the bush center steel cylinder, correct ?
To clarify even further, going from left to right on the rear mount:
1. Bolt
2. Mount on car
3. Bush
4. Mount on wishbone
5. Bush
6. Mount on car
7. Nut
The reason for asking is that my initial thought would be to re-use the round metal plates (pressed out the cylinder) from the stock bush between 2/3 and 5/6.

Thanks for your help.
Will see if I can get hold of the magazine.

The question really is what you mean with "ALL the old bush".

This is what I have removed so far:

Front Mount:
Basically the same things I received from Powerflex.
A rubber bush and a cylinder (steel center) with a cone shaped head.
The only thing left is a steel or aluminium insert, inside the wishbone mount.

Rear Mount:
Two identical pieces, rubber bush around a steel cylinder with a metal plate at the end facing the mount.
The only thing left is a two piece steel insert inside the wishbone mount.

Saying " get out all the old bush" mean get the piece entirely !!!
Watch the image below.

And when you will install the new pieces, don't forget to use a lot of lub, if you don't want to hear some noise coming from the front of your car !!!
I know, I had the problem
The quality of the lub "given" by Powerflex is rather poor and there is not enough quantity, so use another quality !!!

I hear you, great picture!
Wasn't sure the steel insert was part of the bushing.
So for future reference, get the inserts out, front and rear mount.
Thanks for the help!!

Staffan,
Hey what a great set of pictures !!!!!!!!!!
Just to be very clear , the lube is for the center of the poly bush ONLY.
With the steel sleeves out you will find the aluminum in the wishbone bush , hole a little corroded.
Leave that corrosion alone !! It helps to grip the outer of the bush.
The bushes should be a gentle push fit into the wishbone.
Dont get the front one the wrong way round . The "top hat " faces the front of the car.

Its very pleasing for me to see you are using these bushes .It took Powerflex and myself a little while to get them right.
Another example of persauding the world that "throw away " is not always best !!!
You will find the front end response a bit sharper but no change in comfort levels.
A suggestion to the hardened trackday guys , it may be an idea to approach Powerflex to make some sets of the bushes in a harder poly.
The poly used was the best grade for a balanced response improvement / comfort. There were much harder grades available.

All the best

Whoops,
Front bush "top hat " faces the REAR of the car.

Trying to write software and read rennlist at the same time is a BAD idea!!!!!!!!

All the best

I sent a mail to Milfordmicros and got a reply back with the article from Porsche World. Extremely nice from those fellows who have moved from the UK to Canada in the mean time. I would love to share the document but don't know how really. If needed you can always PM me.
Edit; Geoff, are you the author of this article? Cannot be a coincidence.

Bon courage !!!!
