Comparing the 993 to a 996 is like comparing a pearl to a booger.
I like my pearl and my booger plus, even though the pearl is supercharged, the booger will kick it's tail on a race track any day of the week

LOL! That's a nice combination you have. No doubt the more modern cars will whup a 993's and 964's butt on a track.

What great cars, you lucky man. Whilst some may question the looks of the basic 996, the GT3 looks stunning in all its incarnations. When at the 'Ring last week it was clear that GT3s were the weapon of choice - soooooo much faster than pretty much anything else. A mk1 GT3 is one of the few things I'd chop my turbo in for. Just got to wait a few years for them to get cheaper and me to get richer...

Your turbo is beautiful! The GT3 is a very capable car, especially the cups, but that would be a very tough decision to make.

Jay,

That widebody is so stunning! And I'm a nb fan. Guess I'm going to have to bring two more 964's to the fold, before I move toward a 996.

Very funny. We can agree that the GT3 is an amazing track car and although it falls under the 996 designation can you put the 2 in the same category? A 3.4 liter especially and even the 3.6 liter 996 is not the same animal as a GT3.

How much HP is the supercharged 964 WB pumping out? There are a few that have raced worked 965's against GT3's and left them behind. I know of someone now that has a 500hp (on CIS with modified WUR) 3.3l 964 T that is teaching GT3's how its done.

I see you chose a 964 as a street car over a 996. Both are very nice!

Anthony,
Thanks! The WB has 450 hp @ the crank, 375 to the ground. Lots of fun around town & she does still occasionally see the track just for grins. The GT3 is a cup. I have a friend who is a very competent driver who runs a 964 turbo. On our short 1.7 mile local track, my cup is about 5 seconds faster then his turbo. The cup only has 335hp to the wheels but weighs 400+ Lbs. less, has better brakes & most importantly a more modern suspension. That last one is the big difference. I don't think anyone will argue which one looks better though

PS: My racecar before the cup was a very quick RSA which a buddy now has. Great car!

Wow, Those are some nice numbers. What kind of torque does it generate?

The cup is a finely tuned machine. Must be amazing on the track. Unfortunately, a turbo has no chance against a high HP NA car on a short track, especially against a cup car suspension. However, I think you will find on the longer tracks like the Glenn that gap might not be so great with the right driver behind the wheel. These cars still do a good job for such old technology, and they look great doing it. Does your WB have big reds? IIRC they came with stock C2 brakes.

Yeah, I need to look & see how the 964 turbos ran at Daytona & Road America. I ran both of those last year so they are good benchmarks.

My car does have big reds now. One of the many mods on the slippery slope. Actually, mine is more like a solid sheet of ice on the side of a glacier at this point
