Default Racecar Project - Suspension

I also began to install the suspension. Here is the front subframe with the control arms and steering rack. It currently has a brand new Carrera RS rack, but I will probably switch back to power steering with an electric power steering pump once the car is sorted out. You can see the monoballs in the control arms and the GT2 Evo tie rod ends. Notice the suspension is on the outer 2 holes which is correct for a 964 wide body. The shocks are JRZ 3way adjustable units that I had previously sent back to the Netherlands to be rebuilt and so are fresh. On the rear control arm, you can see the ERP adjustable spring plates and the outer monoball. I also am using stock ABS sensors, but I covered them with a heat barrier and changed the connector to a DTM style connector for the smaller lighter wiring that the car will be wired with. You can also see the centerlock drive dogs instead of wheel studs.

Luke,

I'm not aware that they make aftermarket ball joints for the 964.

You can order ball joints for both front and rear suspension from Porsche Motorsport's catalogue.

From the 3.8RSR factory parts manual I have is showing 964.341.049.03 for the ball joint, the same as the street car part number. The 993GT2 factory parts manual shows 993.341.049.02 for the ball joint, again the same as the street car part number. Are we talking about the same part? I have already replaced all of the rubber bushings with monoballs similar to the Motorsports parts.

Do you have a part # for the GT2 Evo tie rod ends?

Uprights (wheel carriers) 993.341.157.81R (left) and 993.341.158.81R (right)

The tie rods are for the wide body and I don't have the part number for them. You will need to change from the 964 inner tie rod to the 993 outer tie rod. Alternatively, ERP makes an adjustable tie rod assembly for the GT2 Evo uprights.

Depending on year, you may also need to change the ball joint from the 964 to the 993 due to diameter differences.

One caviat, Porsche Motorsport says the GT2 EVO uprights are no longer available and when I checked here in the USA, they did not, would not, could not order them.

Geoffrey - Very cool.

The Evo uprights were available as of a few weeks back as I received two sets of them. You don't need to go through Motorsports for them. You can get them straight from PCNA. If this changed, it changed very recently.

I don't mean the mountings for the dampers/uprights. I meant the front wishbone/control arm and the rear control arm with mono ***** instead of rubber. If I remember correct you could get the front wishbone through Porsche Motorsport for around 550 USD when I checked it out 1 1/2 year ago.

I'm not sure if I'm correct from the picture, but are there still rubber in lower mount on the rear damper? I have the stock RSR dampers from Bilstein in my car and there's no rubber, just a monoball.

Ahh, yes, the JRZs for the 964 have rubber rather than a monoball for the rear lower mount. That is the only rubber left in the car, everything else is a monoball.

Looks like you don't have to send back to the Netherlands anymore

JRZ-USA (LINK)

I can't wait until your project is complete...think about getting a thread together having links to your pics/threads in cronological order? I bet that thread would have tons of views.

Geoff, when you rebuilt the front suspension did you replace the control arm bolts or re-use them ? if you replaced them, were they from PCNA ?
