Default DME Relay question

Being too lazy to check it out physically, I'd like to know whether all 964's are equipped from the factory with the 944xxx... DME relay, or did some of them get the 993xxx... relay as standard?

My car is a late '92 model C4 (ROW).
My idle hunts a bit too much for my liking, so I wonder if the upgraded 993xxx... DME relay would make any difference.

They have changed the part # over the year and I'm pretty sure that if you buy one new today it will have a 993.xxx part #

and the hunting may be other issues. My '92 does that too, and I just swapped DME relays to see if it helped; it did not. I have to check my ISV and Idle Air control motor; last time the hunting was made better by cleaning the IAC.

I just checked that I have the newer 993xxxxxx DME relay, so the hunting idle is not caused by a faulty relay...

I also got new coil leads (and a new battery), but the idle still hunts a bit too much.

My OPC mechanic commented that cleaning the ISV and IAC are a very short term improvement.
Any real world experience on this? How long does the effect last?

It shouldn't be a short term improvement unless you routinely over-fill the engine with oil. The problem is the overflow tube for the oil tank routes the extra oil back through the ISV and the intake system, gumming everything up. If you don't overfill, they should stay clean for a long time.

Hei 964fin
"I just checked that I have the newer 993xxxxxx DME relay, so the hunting idle is not caused by a faulty relay..."
Just cause it has a new part number does not prove that the part is good .
Do you have a new spare relay ?
If you do not have a spare relay , you should get one . SOP for 964 owners .
Switch from one to the other to see if the problem comes and goes with a relay .

"cleaning the ISV and IAC are a very short term improvement."
Short or long , if it needs to be done , it needs to be done .
And whats short ? 20 k 30 k ?

Maybe its a good idea to get a new relay just to be sure.
I'll have tot try the clean up as well to see if it makes any difference.

Oddly enough my hunting idle issue seems to have gone away after I completed my suspension swap. During removal of the airbox and other bits I found things that weren't tightened to my liking in the air-intake stream. My hunting idle seems to be gone now that those are all reasonably tight. Go poking about back there and see if you're missing a connection. Especially that little vaccuum res line on the back of the airfilter housing.
