To correct the checksum, the chip content is read . The checksum is calculated , put in the chip content , and a new chip made with the checksum corrected.
In your case the incorrect checksum fault is an indicator of modifications but has no performance issues.
On a standard ECU the fault is serious.
I think it is bad practice not to do this correction and so remove a potential reason for an ECU swap if a running problem develops.

I would ask whoever made the chip, to do this for you, if you are concerned.

It's a good idea to have a functional CEL even if the car didn't have the bulb
installed as was the case for many early & non-U.S. cars. This provides an
indication of an engine fault even though no problem may be noticeable
while running, which may prevent a serious engine problem later.

Bottom line: Get the CEL working and correct the chip problem so you have
an indication of REAL faults.
