Help Finding Airbag Sensors (photos)
Okay, I give up. Where are the little buggers?

I don't see them? They are 40mm X 25mm X 25mm black boxes that sit up by the shock towers. Look around in there for the electrical connectors. They are round black connectors about 50mm long. The wire on the passenger side will go under the central electric and the drivers side has a clip that attaches it (the wire)to the outside firewall under the plastic cowl cover. Then the wire heads into the drivers firewall.
Is your airbag light on?

Oh wait, I think I see them peering out from behind the fuel tank. They are on the frame rail. Look just behind the brake fluid resovoir. It's the black thing with the special ribbed nut holding it down.

Ah-HA! Circled in yellow? These are the airbag sensors?

I think, as previously mentioned, I'll pull these sensors and clean up the contacts really good, get the Hammer to reset the fault codes, and hope for the best.
Next question...how do I safely remove the connectors from these sensors as to not cause the airbag(s) to deploy? Key off? Or, Battery disconnected, (for how long) or fuse pulled? What's the best way to go?

Yes, Robert, they are the small black boxes immediately below your circles.
If you don't mind me utilising your pictures...
That plastic panel attached to the front of the hood/boot area, only present in early cars... does anyone actually have anything inside that 'cover' and if so, what?

It's the small black box under your circle. My airbag-light went on a couple of weeks ago, and last week my OPC fixed this by just cleaning the contacts to the sensors. That increased the resistance in the sensors to the correct level. I think it's safe enough just to disconnect the battery. Then go to a OPC and reset the system. If a sensor is broken, a new one costs about 130$. The part number is 964.613.221.02 for MY92-93 or 01 in the end for earlier cars.

Hi Robert
I think you know where the sensors are now - but just to be sure - your 3rd photo shows them best. The objects which are circled are actually the connectors and in order to remove any of the wires leading into it, one must unclip the black outer shell so that it opens up like a clam shell - which in turn will unlock the sensor wire. Disconnect the battery first.

John,
The black plastic cover at the front of the boot area covers the C4's 4WD/Traction Control pressure boost pump thingy!
Strangly, my C4 does not have one of these covers!
Robert,
Any chance you could come up with the part numbers for that cover & the one that goes over the ABS Control Unit, which is behind the battery as I would like to buy the covers & thus protect that rather expensive equiptment?
Andy

I'll disconnect the battery for a good 20 minutes and dig in.
As usual, thanks to all who helped.

Robert,
Unwittingly I think you've taken a great shot of what Amazon green really looks like. Maybe its slightly more greenish in the pics, but in your second picture (in the first post) it shows it quite well.
