I do remember building elaborate snow forts as a kid. That was fun.

My 964 is a true daily-use. I use it to commute to work and I drive it in the rain (the fun lies there!). Of course this requires some extra-care for bodywork. I use Synpol sylicon based polish once a month and every two years I have a professional polishing performed.
I drove in snow only once last year to Cerreto Laghi sky resort. The day after I jet-cleaned the bottom of the car to remove salt and mud.

Anyone knows an aftermarket ski-carrier for 964? (I found original one for moped-money!)

I have to drive in the rain sometimes, living in the Netherlands. Otherwise it would stay in the garage too long.
Still, I tend not to take the 964 when it's raining. Most interesting wet-weather drive was a lap round the Nurburgring. Dry and sunny when going through the gate, rain & wet before the end of the first straight. Very very slippery...
Cheers,
JW

That is a VERY nice car.
But.....
What you have is called Compulsive Obsessive Disorder. The key words in your statement are 'I am afraid that if I drive it in the wet, I am not going to be able to get it as clean again'.
If an adult tells us that he/she does not allow their sitting room to be used at all because they would feel that they couldn't get it clean again or they would feel the need to clean it again - we would say that the person is suffering from COD. In this case the subject is a car, but does that make it allright? I would be worried. Do you wash your hands 30 times a day?
(Disclaimer: This is all IMHO and is not intended to cause offence. COD is a real phenomenon and can limit a person's ability to function. My sister has a very mild form of it - nothing like the one displayed here though!)

I should add that I wash my car every 2 weeks and Cornubia it every 2 months. So my car is generally very clean but I don't stop myself from driving it in any weather. If I did, I would soon not drive it at all because I would be scared of damaging it. Then, I would be worried the garage might collapse on it and build a bomb-proof hangar instead. And then,......
It is just a heap of thousands of metal parts that moves you from A to B. It just happens to do it better than most other cars and sounds better than ALL the rest whilst doing so!

Someone once wrote that one half of the world can't understand the pleasures of the other half.
I'm sorry to be contentious here (I hate being contrary before breakfast) but, heck, we have fricking labels for everything these days as a way of enforcing social norms. Darn it if nothing else it would be so boring if we all followed the majority line (as PJ O'Rourke once observed, if we followed the majority line we'd all be lusting after Mel Gibson - as there are more women than men - wearing jeans and eating pizza).
So I say "if it floats your boat, go for it".
If the washing of hands is a reference to "As good as it gets", didn't Jack Nicholson also end up with the girl in that movie? And wasn't the girl Helen Hunt? I knew I should have followed Matrons advice and washed more!

Christer,
First, the malady that you are trying to refer to is called OCD – Obsessive Compulsive Disorder not COD. COD is a fish found primarily in the North Atlantic. Second, while I do have several vices and a health issue, Arthritis, (which makes it that much harder to detail my car) what I have in relation to my Porsche is called PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP. No I do not wash my hands thirty times a day nor did I mention anything about my sitting room. (Which is immaculate by the way, but then my Fiancé is the one who cleans the house.) Not that it's any of your business.
I have noticed several threads relating to discussions of whether people drive in the snow or not. I thought that the subject that I brought up was a logical and meaningful one. Judging from the responses that were posted I see that others feel the same as I do. You attributed the quote of "I am afraid that if I drive it in the wet, I am not going to be able to get it as clean again." to me. What I actually wrote was, "I try not to drive mine in the rain only because I don't want the hours of clean-up involved in a full detail." You can't even get a simple direct quote right! Actually I am not AFRAID of my car getting dirty. It is a matter of time management. I take great pride in my car being spotless. (My SUV is a different story.) I like the way my car looks and would like to keep it in it’s present condition for as long as possible without having to spend needless hours detailing it. (Though it is enjoyable.)
In the future I would appreciate it greatly if you would keep your responses limited to the subject at hand and not offer inane medical advice that you have clearly demonstrated you are not trained or knowledgeable enough to give. If you want to psychoanalyze someone, look in the mirror! (A Napoleon complex?) As you can see, whether you intended it or not, I did take offense at your remark.

People are in different situations. I wish I could keep my car spotless. I hate seeing those little dirt streaks that rain causes. And I just need to harden my heart to the sight of the car after a winter's drive. I would love to have a perfectly clean 911 I can always point to - in fact, truth be told, I would love a perfectly restored 1972 911S !!
But the only way I can afford any 911 right now is to drive it whenever I need to get somewhere, come rain, snow, etc. I try to not need to go anywhere when it's too slushy or in the middle of a snow storm ('cause I'm afraid the SUVs will slide into me !), but otherwise, it's how I get around.

Johnny G -- I need to know more about the sled!!! -- did you get the folding aluminum thing? It looks like a blast..
As for rain/snow -- I have a C4, I drive in the rain now, and have even decided that the rain streaks look tough. I think I have a Le Mans car, with the oily streaks pulled back from the headlights and roof. I used to keep it indoors because I don't always have time for a ful detailing.
I would drive it in snow except I have no faith in any other driver on the road. Here in No. Va., people get really stupid in bad weather. YOu see SUVs sideways in ditches, and worse any time the snow falls.
I figure the corrosion prevention stuff on the car should work. The worse stuff would be driving on the day after roads, when the salt is all melted, wet and everywhere. At the time of actual snowfall, our road crews are behind the curve....

Yes, it's the Aluminium folding sled. Will post pictures when I test-ride it. (Maybe I have a touch of OCD, because I am most reluctant to use it for the first time, in case I scratch the Alu!!)
BTW, OCD is no joking matter, but most mental illnesses do extend their spectrum into the normally-functioning population, and in doing so enrich it. Just look at Bjork!!
(PS Smokin, I am not likening you to Bjork...)

Hey Smokin,
if Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is OCD, then Pride OF Ownership is....
...POO
Eeeuuuuuuwwwwww!!!!
BTW, I don't think Senor Pinstripes (aka Christer) means anything by his assertion that you may be a little obsessive...some of us just don't understand the priority of keeping a car clean IF it means not driving it..kinda defeats the purpose of owning a 964...a little bit...but I'm in the 'live and let live' camp.....whatever floats your boat!!
