Do you drive in the rain?

Just a couple more thoughts...
It'll be interesting to see how the 964's hold up to corrosion vs. the previous generation cars. My previous '86 was a mess after 91,000 miles of daily and winter driving by the prior owner. Lots of bubbling and corrosion. Granted it held up better than a common Chevy would have. I would hope the 964 series will stand up better over time.
Please don't knock us concours guys for keeping our cars mint. We enjoy our cars just as much as our fellow track guys and daily driver guys. (You'd be amazed at how well a concours enthusiast knows his/her car.) I take great pride in keeping my car as perfect as possible and it's fun for me to clean. I take a lot of crap for only driving my car 1000 miles a year on sunny Sundays. But, going to a few shows where the car is getting a bunch of attention and compliments is great fun for me. To each his own, different strokes for different...etc., etc., etc. If we were all alike, this would be a pretty boring place to live.
This next point doesn't seem right, but... a car right off the boat from the factory isn't even a 300 point car. There's a bunch of work to be done to even a brand new car to get it up to snuff for some classes in concours. You can't take a brand new car with zero miles on it and expect to win anything. Odd isn't it...?
Again, this is only my $.02 and 2 cents ain't worth much nowdays.

I couldn't agree more! It is your car and life, so go, do and be happy.
Any chance of posting pictures?

Ruairidh,
Here's a few pictures of the car as it sat on the showroom floor. I bought it as a consignment unit out of Costa Mesa, CA from TruSpeed Motorcars. Here are the vitals:
1. 53k miles (Not one stone chip, PO had the front lid painted.)
2. Andial Racing prepared motor at 50k. Heads machined for cylinder upgrade. New valves, valve guides, valve springs, cams, intake and performance chip. New distributor belt and vent kit.
3. Sport B&B muffler
4. Bilstein shocks with H&R springs (lowered 1 1/2 inches)- Andial installed
5. Shock tower brace.
6. New brakes at 50k miles - Big Red calipers in front w/ cross-drilled rotors, RS calipers w/ cross-drilled rotors in the rear.
7. Club sport light flywheel and clutch, pilot bearing & throwout bearing.
8. New leather interior throughout installed by Autos International in San Diego. (Prior interior color was black.)
9. New Blaupunkt Toronto stereo with all new Sony speakers & a Blaupunkt 10 disc CD changer.
10. New 17" Club Sport rims and Continental tires.
11. Roof mounted third brakelight (on rear window, outside).
12. New rear decklid with new Porsche Turbo tail.( The PO badged it as a Carrera RS)
13. Porsche aero mirrors to replace flag style.
The previous owner as I have mentioned before was meticulous with this car and spent a ton of money doing these upgrades. (He's probably a member on this board!)I have all the service records. The only known problems that I have are:
1. The aero mirrors don't work - I'll fix that with help from the tech section here.
2. The rear decklid shocks need to be doubled up for the increased weight of the turbo tail. (I have the parts.)
3. The low fuel light flashes occasionally but the gauge itself works great. (HELP!)
4. Sometime idle problems because of the lightweight flywheel. (I've addressed that a number of ways - No more stalling at present.)
I paid $27k for it plus an additional $1k to have it shipped via covered carrier to my home in Maryland. I feel that I got a deal. (And that's really all that counts.) It runs great and pulls hard and I'm dying to get it onto the track as well as to dyno it. I've joined the PCA but have not heard back from them yet. I'm looking forward to meeting all the fellow Porsche owners up here. I used to have a 77 Targa 911S a few years back. I was surprised at all the refinements they have made over the years. They have gone from sports car to luxury sports car.

Jay & Smokin'
Those are two nice cars. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
Jay - thats a really nice color and not one I'm familar with. Just like Jon K's color it really shows the 964 lines nicely.
Smokin' - looks like you got yourself a bargain. I was trying to do a mental calculation as to how much the PO sank into the car and gave up once I got to "phor-thats-a-lot".

Smokin': One word describes your car: Stunning! Thanks for posting pics!
Ruairidh: My color is Baltic Blue. It was used on '88 944 series cars, 1989 3.2's and '90 964's. Not the most common color, but there are a few around. I believe Jeremy in FL who posts here has the same color on his Targa.

Drifting
I drive mine in the rain, gives me a good excuse to clean it again, not that I need much in the way of an excuse......
But i won't be driving in the winter slush and snow, not a cat in hells chance....Will be too busy adding stainless brakelines, cleaning calipers, cleaning the crankcase breathing system, and anything else that stands still too long.......

I drive my car in the rain, but that's not saying much.
Snow? What's snow?
Suppose that's an under appreciated perk of living in Southern California ... being able to drive your P-car year round without exposing it to inclement weather. I knew I was paying that big, fat mortgage for a reason.

I have to drive mine in the rain - as I live in London where it rains almost every day!! I wonder if more C4's were sold in the UK than C2's for this reason???

Smokin, that IS a beauty. When I said my C4 'shines up', I guess that was relatively speaking!!!
I can now fully understand your caution: that motor deserves nothing else than 100% Pasadena sunshine..

Hey Randall, considering your Michigan roots I think you may know what snow is
We had the first flurry y'day in the Detroit area, the UP is covered already

I couldn't agree more that whatever makes you happy is what you should do. But, if you haven't tried a 964 on m/s tires in the snow, you haven't had all the fun you can. Once you do, you'll be waiting for the first few inches so you can practice all your rally techniques. AS
