Help. I already searched the forum, but can't find the answer.
I removed the half moon cover on one side of the fog light. Then removed the bumper guard on the other side. I then removed the 2 screws on both sides of the fog light, but the fog light won't come loose.
I need to replace the fog light bulb. What do I need to do next?
Its been a while since I last changed a bulb but I seem to remember having to remove the black bumper thingy, then the fog light pivoted out. My car is at the mechanic getting its front diff seal replaced so I can't go outside to verify. Hopefully someone else will chime in.
I have just removed mine. I believe you just remove the halfmoon piece, then the screws for the foglight lens, then it is simply a matter of pulling the lens off the housing. You can then get to the bulb. I will check tonight for sure as I have the old foglights sitting on my garage floor.
As Derk says, remove the front lens of the foglight. From the front you will see three screws, two of them fasten the lens to the light, the other adjusts the aim of the light.
if you got the three screws out.. I would give it a good pull. The lens is probably seized to the gasket. Be careful not to break the lens as you have to replace the whole fog light.

I had a problem getting the lens off of mine. Turned out that one of the ears on the backing was broken and kept turning around, but keeping the lense in place. Epoxy to the rescue.
You're 90 percent of the way there. The lens is not removable, so, don't try and pry it loose. The outer half of the housing is retained with internal spring clips. Grab the housing with two hands on each side and pull. It will come loose; absolutely NO prying necessary. Once out, you will note that the bulb is retained by a wire clip which needs to be disengaged. The bulb is then easily removed and replaced. It's a lot more work than you would think to replace a bulb. German over-engineering.
Actually timely resuscitation for me guys. I want to pull my front bumper cover today from my new to me 90 964-4, and that solves the fog light part. I’ve already got the bottom black covers off and the fender liners. Now searching the forum to read how to fully detach and remove the front bumper cover (without breaking things). I’ve already got a list of replacement speed nuts and screws in my pelican cart to replace the brass wood screws someone previously used to attach the black bottom pieces.
if you recall any good bumper removal diy threads let me know, I’ll keep looking though! Best regards.
^^^ Since you have the bottom covers and liners off, you're almost there. Stick your head into the wheel arch and look into the area marked 14 on the diagram, you should see ~4 bolts to remove on each side. Pop the frunk and remove the ~4 screws (shown as 15 on the diagram) holding the bumper to the seal. Wiggle the bumper out gently and disconnect the fog lights if you still have them in place.
