Default Cracked fog light repair

Frustrating the cost of replacing complete fog lights when the glass suffers a rock strike and cracks. Sourced original glass off a German website for 118 euro for both left and right glass.

A relatively easy job to break out the old glass, clean out the channel, and fit the new glass. Still to fit, but almost done.

Fantastic work!

I wish I could do this to mine. Both have had holes in them so long that the reflectors are not that much anymore. Plus someone ham-fisted the adjuster screws thinking they were mounting screws (so those are broken).

do they glue into place?
do you have to monkey with the metal lip surrounding the lens?

Originally they are sealed into the channel. It takes a good hour to slowly & carefully use a knife to undercut the sealant to remove the glass. As you can see I cleaned up the channel, then re-sealed with a glass adhesive / sealant (clear, outdoor, UV, waterproof).

There is no metal surround, they screw into the fog bumper recess.

PS be very careful removing the reflector and the alignment tab. Unscrew the alignment tab completely, then remove the tab with a half turn. Then it is safe to lift out the lens.

Put the old fog into an oven for 5 minutes @120 C, then prise off the glass with a flat screwdriver. Use gloves obviously but it takes no time to remove the glass lenses done like this.

Butyl is cheap and works like playdough so easy to put into the channel for a reseal. I've been looking for new lenses myself as mine are cracked. That link is dead.
