Wasn't there a thread around here somewhere that concluded that the white cars all got the higher power engines?

Dissapointed, but would that sway your mind into keeping it?

http://www.911uk.com/car.asp?stockid=26295

is the only private one I've come across thus far....
Actually - if it's really only worth that much, that might be what makes me keep it.

At the moment, I would say I'm not 100% certain I want to sell it - but I am 90-95% sure. I enjoy driving it, but to a certain extent I have lost interest in it. I actually don't feel like I want to spend money on it at the moment, and when I do I can think of several other things I would rather spend it on.

I am not going to sell it yet, because I need to be 100% sure and I will wait until spring / summer next year to see if I reach that point. The funny thing is though that I was assuming it was worth £15-16K. I don't actually need to sell it - and if it really does turn out that it's only worth £12K then I'm not sure I would bother. I think it's a good car (even though it's white!) and I don't think it's worth selling it if that's all it's worth. It clearly is possible to run these cars on a smaller budget than I have and I think I would have to take that approach - fix most things myself and only get the garages to do the essential stuff. That way the running costs should reduce and maybe it wouldn't bother me quite as much.

But we'll see. Vehicles have been a significant cost to me for the last 18 years of my life because even before the 964 I had bikes which were always expensive to insure and used tyres every 2K miles. Although I'm sure the novelty would wear off quite quickly, I actually find the idea of having transport which is cheap to insure and cheap to run for the first time in my life quite appealing!

Oh dear, not time for a pipe and slippers........I seem to be going the other way, give it a couple of years and then you'll see things the way I do ;-))

Although I think it suits the car quite well, it's not a popular colour. In the UK, you can knock at least £1K of the price you'll get for a 911 if it's white.

Dave,

I'm in a similar position to you at the moment in that i'm also considering selling my car and am looking into the prices and not seeing what i would like to .
I've had my car for nearly 2 yrs and its a great thrill driiving it but is a very expensive (for me) weekend toy with a diesel beater for my long commute. I paid the thick end of 17k and now would like to see atleast 15k back. It does'nt help that my car is LHD (but thats why i got it in the first place).

I'm hoping that the fact the car is a 92 MY, is a popular colour (black) and has pretty much every option, 84K and full OPC may get me towards that figure. The question i'm toying with is sell now, sell via an agent (911virgin etc) or wait until next spring. It wont cost me much in the meantime as it wants for nothing but that wont help the mortgage/ccards etc get reduced. Guess i'm having a sensible phase at the mo where i'm finding it hard to justify the car as an extravagance.

Maybe taking it for a blast tonight will change my mind

Hmmm......This is always a very personal decision. I may well sell mine at some point and get something else...who knows...although as the car is now I think I want to keep it for a while. I have around £35K in the car all told and I will never get that back but if I had purchased a 996 at 40K by now I would have had only 28K to show for it anyway.......so I just keep telling myself....it ISNT depreciating...it ISNT depreciating....bugger

Default 964 Price

I sold my 1990 C2 last September after two years of ownership for £16.5k (only £1k less than I paid for it 2 years previously) to the only person who came to look at it!

Keys to the sale for me were,

Local buyer, long test drive.
Tons of receipts (esp, re clutch and flywheel) and MOTs
Full MAIN DEALER service history.
Being able to honestly claim the car had no oil leaks.
He had to have a red one.
The car was totally original and unmolested.
Average annual mileage was only about £5k.
Leather seats were 'honestly worn' but in good condition (as was the rest of the car.)
It had a LSD and virtually new tyres.

I also spent a lot of time with the buyer, and really sold the car to him.

Average price of a privately advertised 964 in September's '911 and Porsche world' is £17,947. No left hookers, no cabs included.
