OT : Cheap 964s
As I mentioned at our SE meet on Sunday, I am fairly certain I will sell my car next summer - and in fact, if it wasn't so late in the year I'd probably try now.
I took a look at pistonheads site yesterday and was a bit surprised. There were some cars at about the price I'd expect for mine (somewhere in the £15-16K region) but there were a couple much cheaper - one RHD car for £11K!!!!! And a few more (although mostly LHD) for around £12K.
I really hope they were a lot worse in the flesh than they sounded in the description, or the "at least they don't depreciate" argument seems to be failing a bit.......

The prices at 911virgin and similar places seem to be holding up nicely - in fact they are pretty much at the same level as when I bought mine 4 years ago....I would guess its all down to service history/condition....

I alway thought the depreciation thing was a myth anyway.
Average cost on there seems to be around 14K.
If your selling privatly then its about waiting for that person who is looking for a car in your colour, spec and price range. Find that person and the sale is easy.
If your trading in then your at thier mercy and they can be total s**ts. With a bike I was selling I went back to the dealer who i bought from and he told be that colour was the hardest to sell. I reminded him that he had told me at purchase that colour was the best to buy.
Point being ti will always be in their favour. So it depends on how fast and how bad you need the sale.
If you dont need to sell put it up for sale now and see what happens.

Buyers don't want a car that has oil leaks or that hasn't had a top-end rebuild. They might be in good condition (ie good bodywork and interior) but if the engine related items are showing up then buyers aren't interested and these prices reflect that.

cheapest quote i got for a top end only was £3,000, most were £3,500 (including JZM). quick straw poll of some websites shows average dealer retail price of a std 964 (not left hookers, no RS's etc) to be £17,400. wide variation, from £20k to £13k. 911 virgin seem have upped their average price too.

There also seems to be a bit of an artificial mental threshold in some (uninformed) buyers about a cut-off at 100k miles. After that, all 964's seem to be harder to sell, unless the buyer is informed.

Marc's right, at least in North America. Even in otherwise mint condition, I'd say a 964 with 164K wouldn't sell for more than about $18-20K at the most.
A quick check on Autotrader showed 15 cars with 100K+ miles, an average price of $18937 with a high of $25500 (115K) and a low of $9995 (134K), and nothing newer than a 91.

Dissapointed, but would that sway your mind into keeping it?
