Post Getting ready for Driver's Education

I am readying my new '93 for Driver's Ed. And I noticed when I remove the floor mats, the thick black rubber insulation is rather well attached to the floor. I know we want to remove loose items, like the floor mats. But it appears that having the rubber insulation in place would not be a good situation. What do other 964 owners do in this case?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve;

Actually there is foam (almost 2" thick) attached to the black asphalt material. I use a heat gun and plastic knife. It is a slow process because the carpet is glued to it also. If you do not remove the pads, your feet will poke holes right through the pad.

You can do what some racers do, which is craft a thin, shaped, wooden floorboard to go over floor and thus the rubber insulation. I'd anchor it in place with at least one bolt and spacer, or otherwise secure it.

A popular mod to the floorboard is a sheet of aluminum...this works fairly well, again, just a few spacers and screws. It can be installed right under your carpet and you would never know it was there until you pull your mats/carpet out.

I have a picture of this setup, will try and find it and post it...it was on a friend's 964.

Thanks for the ideas. It sounds like the best way to go is leave the rubber there and cover it with wood or aluminum. Thanks again.
