Post Spoiler not retracting

Intermittent fault that seems to have become permanent today. On a few occasions, the rear spolier wouldn't retract when I cam eto a stop. Usually I'd get back up to 50 mph, and it would retract as normal the next time. Yesterday, it stayed up. I noticed that it hadn't fully retracted when I parked it, ie, it was 'open' about 2". When I drove home it opened, but then stayed open. Using the manual retractor dial in the car didn't work. This morning, when I got in, I was able to retract it with the manual control. Then, when I got to 50 mph it opened, but has remained stuck.

Any clues??

I've checked fuse & can hear relay clicking at 50 and when I stop. The use of the manual switch also causes a 'click' of a relay from inside the console.

I had exactly the same problem on my 964 RS.

AFN Guildford replaced a micro switch under the tail, and it has been fine since.

Hi C2RS!

You replaced a microswitch, that cured the malfunction of your rear spoiler. Do you have any idea of the part number of this microswitch? Can you remember how much you paid for the repair?
Your answers would be of great use since I have the same erratic behaviour of my spoiler.

Cheers THOMAS

Thanks a lot C2RS!
This would be a great help! I just hope that it's not a to cost intensive repair.

Bye THOMAS

Dear Thomas,
You have to replace the open and close microswitches together. They are sold on the same loom.
The part number is 964 613 107 01.
I would recommend you do a visual inspection of the microswitches and makes sure they are adjusted properly and in the correct place. Easy to find. Pop open engine lid. Look underneath at the left hand edge of the spoiler assembly and there you have them.
Ciao,
Adrian

Hi Thomas

Adrian is spot on with the part number P964 613 107 01.

It costs GBP 33.50 labour was GBP 38.50 (less than an hour as they fitted it while I waited)

...one of the few parts that won't break the bank!!

This may not be your problem, but it does happen. My spoiler didn't go up, all I had to do was to make sure the gears meshed. I had to use an allen wrench to tighten the plastic linkage which brought the gears together. While this doesn't seem like your problem, you might want to check for tightness and gear meshing while you are in there. It is something I check now every spring and fall.

Hi There! Just checked the microswitches yesterday evening. I surely will change them if the erratic behaviour of the spoiler continues! They seem quite easy to replace by doing it myself.

Thanks a lot for the part number and the price quote. Cheers Thomas
