As another "lurker", I have to agree with Christer on this one. It's nice to see the data, not just speculate. As another AMD convert, I am actually a bit annoyed. Should have gone with the MAF rather than just the chip and cat-bypass. Damn that RUF kit!!!!!!!! DOH!!!

Talking

I did comparissons with only a chip and an MAF inc. chip (the chips where different). The major advantage is that the car revs much more free with the MAF. The chip only produced 20 RWHP and the MAF inc. chip produced 30 RWHP as promised by autothority. As the 964 is my wifes car and I paid only about 40 USD for the chip (ebay auction in Germany) I decided to sell the MAF and invest the money in performance upgrades for my 944 turbo. The chip only should be used in conjunction with a K&N filter in order to provide enough air flow. I am NOT a fan of the drilling thing, why would you ruin your OEM parts? The K&N filter looks also very cool, about 110 USD from one of the known sources.

As I said most of the power comes from the chip

For some interesting dyno result comparisons have a look at www.jarke.de/porsche/964powermeasurement.htm

I will be getting my C2 remapped soon and I will post the before and after results.

Christer
Thanks for your comments, from someone who has shown some antipathy to MAF`s I think it`s pretty "big" of you to be so polite.

Steve
All the information I have provided is in good faith - you can choose to believe it or not, it`s upto you.

Christer
I have before and after dyno plots of a custom rechip provided by AMD on a 944 S2 that shows a 10 hp gain. While this is not strictly comparable to the results expected on a 964 it does give an indication as to chip benifits.

Tron
I was considering Motec and that was partly the reason for my dyno test with 930 motorsport. I have seen 2 dyno runs on Motec conversions by 930M - at 310 and 325hp.Both involve using the larger "green" injectors ala 944 turbo. Colin at 930M indicated to me that it is not possible to acheive over 300hp NA with a 964 motor without larger injectors as fuel rate flow becomes the limiting factor.

Christer
[quote] My question is: how did Tony end up with 250rwhp?

A remap of the chip providing the correct fuel to air ratios will work as good as Motec (OK not as good as Motec has more mapping points) on the original DME. I have found using 98 ron makes a significant difference with the rechip

[quote] 1. 930 actually originally installed just the Motec via the adapter and took the car to the rolling road. They got around 25hp gain. They were disappointed with this and by trial and error developed the current kit which gives 280-285 rwhp. Anyway, if the bigger injectors are the only way to get gains, how did the Motec ECU create gains of 25hp?

Motec is in effect a sophisticated rechip with more mapping points than the standard DME. If 930M can only get 25hp with Motec alone I doubt very much if anyone else can acheive more by remapping the standard DME.Motec is better than the standard DME with regard to precision monitoring of fuel - air mixtures, however there are downsides.

Christian
The standard filter is not the limiting factor in airflow through the engine.Hp gains via filter exchange IMHO should be taken with a pinch of salt

I have done my first trackday in my car today and I was fortunate enough to be offered a ride in a 964RS, which unsurprisingly I accepted. A number of things were apparant
1)He was massively more competant at driving than I was
2)His corner speeds were far higher than mine (aided no doubt by much better lines, RS suspension and Michelin pilot cup tyres, but
3)His terminal speeds on the straights were the same as mine.Since he would have entered the straights at higher speed I can only assume I have significantly more HP than he has.

Steve
[quote] 930 Motorsport fit the next size up on their kit to get about 325bhp with Motec + cat bypass + cup pipe. Nice but it costs about £4000 +VAT - ouch!

I think £4k for 75hp pretty good value for money!

I can think of a number of other things I would rather spend £4k+VAT on! However, if you like spending money and want more power then have a good look at what you can do to the exhaust, there is quick a lot of power tied up in there - another 25bhp??

Finally do not take my comments too seriously. I get a bit fed up with all these cliams of bolt this part and get 300bhp! I am also a bit of a wind up merchant
