has anyone experienced issues with their convertible top? i have a '90 C2 cabrio and can't seem to get the top down all the way. it will move a few inches and then stop...however, i can still hear the electric motor still spinning, trying to do something?
and where is that manual override crank i see in the manual?
is this a recurring theme or not quite common?

Hi Scott
first thing, it sounds as though the hood latches that lock it in place to the windscreen are disengaging ok and the hood is being released.
Leave the hood in this position and remove the panel where your rear speakers are. The large black triangular panel covered in carpet which hides the seat belt mechanism and also hides the gears that drive the top.
You will now see a large black shaped disc, this holds the gears to lower the top (1 each side). You will see the main arm of the hood is bolted throught the centre of the gears. This arm mates with the gears (male/female) to lock into position. If you loosen the bolt in the middle of the gears the hood will move freely by hand.
Do this to test if the hood is working ok. The hood may not be working because these bolts are already loosened off. I somehow suspect this is not the case but check anyway. if so tighten fully and try to lower with the dash switch.
If you look on the passenger gears you will see 2 microswitches, when the hood is up it contacts 1 of thes switches and tells the motor to stop pushing the hood, the same for the other switch which tells the motor to stop lowering the hood . These switches are very simple just screwed to the gears and the main arm which bolts to the gears is what contacts the switches to stop the motors working.
Let us know how you get on, the next port of call will be to check the worm drive cables.
Regards

PS i will send you a mail privately which was sent to me by one of the guys on the board who helped with my hood. It has 3 page look at all of them.

Scott,
Can I be cheeky and ask for a copy of that hood stuff as well???
Mine is working fine at present ( at least it was when I tucked it up for winter a few weeks ago !)....but I'm concerned that I may have problems sometime in the future and would rather be prepared.
My email is mhardy@ra.rockwell.com
Thanks in advance

No problems as yet, but I recall someone saying that eventually my cab will need a $2000 adjustment. Sounds nuts, but I wouldn't mind having your info if it is at all a preventive.

Hi Everyone.
I sent a load of private mails today with the attachment, i think i got everyone. if not sorry and drop me a line. The file shows 3 different views of motors/gears/Assembly.
I cant take all the credit for this as when i had problems Tony Schoonderwoerd sent me the info and it helped a great deal.
Its one of those black art things, once you look into it you realise how simple it is. But take it into the garage and you will get plenty of "ooh thats difficult, its going to cost you"
