Post 964 valve adjustment

A few weeks ago someone on the old board was looking for the 964 valve adjust procedure. I was also interested. Brian Smith just posted what looks like a very comprehensive description of this process , feeler guage only not dial indicator. If you want to look it's at http://www.geocities.com/serverdude9...sche/index.htm The new site is already performing for me. Thanks Brian, Roy Eames

You're welcome - and thanks for reading it. It's nice to feel like I'm contributing. I know a lot of people have been somewhat reluctant - to say the least - to attempt valve adjustments on their cars. It really isn't hard to do - just time consuming to the tune of about a whole weekend the first go 'round. But it really gives a whole new sense of pride in doing it yourself. If anyone ever has comments or suggestions about my article, please feel free to shout.

Thumbs up

Hi Brian,

I just got finished reading your article on the valves and I think it is great.

I would recommend that you contact Wayne at Pelican Parts Bulletin Board and see if he would post it in the Tech Articles section of their site.

I have done a number of articles for it and it is a sure way of spreading the knowledge of DYI repairs among our small group of owners.

Thanks Tom. Next adjustment, I'm going to add (hopefully) a dial indicator method to the mix, and put a full blown "Pelican Parts shopping list" and send off to Wayne.

By the way - just visited your site - I love what you've done with your C2 - pretty much kicks butt. I'm hoping to apply my half of the new tax cut rebate this summer to a whale tail. I'm looking at the '94 Flatnose Turbo S tail - or a regular 930 tail. More to come in a separate thread soon.

Brian, thanks for the post on the valve adjustment. With the lack of properly trained Porshce mechanics here, this helps me a great deal.

Brian, Thank you very much. This is exactly the guidence I was seeking. I trust my own work more than some of the mechanics I have encountered, although I am slower, I can at least learn each time, and justify the purchase of a new tool! NOW- when do you suppose we will get help from you regarding the use of the dial indicatior? In the cramped quarters for this procedure, I have trouble in visualizing how this is to be attached.

I am realizing that what I thought was the case with 964's is apparently not the case.

When did the 911 first come with hydraulic valve lash adjusters, thus eliminating the need to adjust the solid lifters?

Thanks,

Dave - the 993 (US - 1995, ROW - 1994) was the first Porsche 911 with hydraulic lifters.
