Talking VINs and Serial Numbers Help Request

This request is for 964 owners with USA versions only. I wonder if firstly all 964 on the list owners would be so kind as to check the 9th digit of their VINs. Current documentation shows it to be a C however this may not be correct.
RSA owners would you be so kind as to give me your serial numbers and model year. I do not need the whole VIN unless you want to give it. Again documentation says 419 but this needs to be confirmed.
Lastly Speedster owners, 1993 and 1994 model years I also need serial numbers and model years.
I look forward to your assistance to clear up these items and to help me get it correct,
Ciao,
Adrian

High,
Adrian,
On my '91 cab, the 9th digit is either the #0, or the letter "O", theres no way to tell the difference between the two characters, their printed the same way in the VIN#. Like Roy's the only "C" is the 4th digit.
Hope this helps.

Adrian- I believe the 9th digit in America is randomly generated by Porsche at time car is VIN'ed and can be any number between 0 and 9 or an can be an X. This means any given "serial number" in the USA has a truly unique "VIN number" which is unpredictble in sequence. This is to keep the crooks at bay I guess. BTW mine is a 7.

Adrian,

My 9th digit is a 0. Not sure if it's zero or the letter 'O'.

From what I've heard, the ninth digit is a Test Digit.

Happy hunting!

Adrian,
93 RSA: 9th digit '4', last six::'418139'.
When you get a chance, I would appreciate your thoughts on my post earlier on this 964 board titled: "RSA/C2 Upgradeto Turbo Brakes"

Thanks

I have a US Speedster WPOZZZ96ZRS465116.The
Us cars have two different numbers,The Chassisnr. as you know here in Europe stamped into the Metal on the Fueltank. And the US Vin on Paperstickers and in the Titles. The 9. digit seems to be the Bodystyle.
They are different but the Last numbers match
For my speedster with the above ne. it is :
WPOCB2962RS465116.
The Us speedster numbers are from 465001to
465480. i confirmed this with Porsche/Zhausen.

Thank you very much for all the replies. Does anyone have a USA version 1993 model year Speedster. I would like to confirm the 1993 model year serial number range. 1994 is all sorted.
The reasons for my questions is fairly simple. When one writes a book like I am, I do not wish to create more questions than answers. If you read other books on the market you will find the 9th digit which is a calculated digit written up as a C. This is convenient for the writer C means Check number. However I have been asked many times by people checking their VINs about this. I am trying to come up with a bullet proof explanation so people will just see the 9th digit and then say, ah yes that is a calulated number or letter and no need to worry or ask questions.
The serial number ranges for the Speedsters is open to debate. I want to use real data to confirm my investigations.
Ciao for now,
Adrian

PS: I still need photos of an American Roadster. I was promised them, but the never turned up. Any American Roadster owners this is the last chance to get your 964 into my book. Of all the 964s built I am only missing three.

There is no 93 Vin nr for the Speedster, not in Europe and not in the US . They all have
Z R S. There is no Z P S ,in Speedsters. There are alot sold in 93 but they are all as
you know build after the Werksferien 93.

Dear Harald,
Well that is the controversy. This is what needs to be sorted out. Nobody can agree on this subject. Not even the various departments of Porsche. Some say there were P Speedsters, others say not. I have pieces of paper showing both arguments and another saying, I do not know. Were some of the R series Speedsters M718s for the USA. This is what I am trying to sort out.
Ask three people get three different answers. This is also where the confusion over production numbers comes in.
Ciao,
Adrian

Adrian, mine's a 0 (zero).

I dunno where Melissa got her information about it being a "test digit"...what I heard is that if you take all the ninth digits from your friend's Porsches and add in yours, take it to the 3rd power and divide by 2.17...

...you wind up with Michael Jackson's bank account and pin#!!

Admittedly, I haven't tried that out yet...my friends won't let me near their P-Cars after I told them the theory.
