If I understand you correctly, you've installed a non-airbag steering wheel for track use?

If so, your fix is easy >> remove the bulb in the clock. You'll still have to reset the main warning lamp every time you start the car, but at least you won't be staring at an airbag light.

Since you asked the question last night. I've been thinking that it might be possible to remove the harness from the airbag brain. Prior to this one needs to remove power from the battery. My thinking is that there would be no signal going to the central informer from the airbag brain.

I have heard (but not personally confirmed) that it can also be done by bridging in a resistor to emulate the resistance of the airbag and therefore the system still thinks the bag is there. FCRacer did it using the resistor out of a Porsche Airbag Test Tool, but I have seen other sites that talk about using a Radio Shack 2 Ohm resistor. This was done on non-Porsche vehicle but I would think that airbag technology is pretty standard across makes, especially back in 1992.

I do have a question for CupUSA#12: What kind of hub did you install, was it a MOMO and if yes what is the model number?

A Momo 7004 hub plus Porsche horn contact bracket 964.652.104.00 will allow the use of a Momo steering wheel and horn. The hub is slightly larger than the steering column cover, so you need to carefully make the opening a bit larger in diameter for the Momo hub. The Porsche horn bracket is pushed into the metal plate in front of the turn signal brackets, at around 1 o'clock. Push it in until it clicks into place.

I'd have to look at the hub again - it came with the car as one of the "series" parts - along with the wheel and crest horn button. the bits were orignally modified by Andial. incidentilly the horn contact fit's in a hole drilled into the hub ring it's self - simple and slick. The Wheel it'self is a "built up"(thicker - i also have a newer one) MonteCarlo with a button surround - with red stiching.
Incidently- what i ended up doing was jumpering Pins 3&4 on the air bag control harness (no Orange clip however) worked like a champ - >5 minutes

I am trying to gather as much info as I can before ordering Momo hub, wheel and parts. Another question for CupUSA#12 (or anybody else who has bypassed the warning light). When you say you jumpered pins 3 & 4 at the "airbag control harness" , is that the connection at the steering column where it attachs to the wheel or is there a connector located somewhere else?

Thanks......... John52 (92 Coupe).

If you want to bypass both airbags you can install a factory bypass plug in the wiring harness. The disconnecting point is a 6 pin plug (sheet 14 and sheet 13, code T6, position 7dn for those of you with factory diagrams)located under a small carpet covered port on the forward right hand side of center console that is retained with a 2 screws. Remove this and behind is a connection that is retained with a screw and has a red/orange antitamper seal. Disassemble this and insert plug #928.612.220.00, which is made to jumper pins 4 and 5 listed by Cupcar12 above only $4.85 list price at dealer, and the airbags are disconnected on both sides. This is the way the factory does it and how it was done on the American Cupcars by Andial, no cut wires and you can return to stock by simply removing the bypass plug. BTW the reason Cupcar12 does not have the orange seal in his post above is because Andial apparently did not replace it when they reactivated the airbags.

I hear a 'trick' from other Rennlister, this is for 993 but I'd think 964 is the same:

"Cut the wire that illuminates the airbag warning light. This is the same wire that causes the central indicator to illuminate, so it solves the problem of the lights.

The central indicator still works for everything except the airbags."

Sounds pretty simple and since you are removing the passenger airbag too, it's ok since this will cause passenger airbag not to work.
