964 c4 driving impressions
I have only driven one other 911 and that was a 96 C2. The car I drove today was a 91 C4. I took a thorough hard 45 minute test drive in it. I originally wasn't interested in a c4 but after driving it I was very impressed. After getting used to the car I pushed it very hard thru some corners and it railed right around them w/o protest. This car is very confidence inspiring (which may be good or may be bad). I found as on the previous 911 I drove brakes and handling to be A1. My senses allowed me to push this car much harder through the corners than I did the C2. I found the acceleration decent dosen't pull like a freight train but gets right up to speed. The one flaw I found was doing a quick 1-2 redline shift was not something this car is fond of, when I let out the clutch in second the car just revved, but not as if the clutch was slipping. I have found in the archives that these cars don't like to be shifted this way which is fine by me. This particular car had no squeaks, rattles burps etc, very tight.

If this is a car that you are serious about then I would be sure to have this looked at closely when you have the highly recommended PPI performed.

I think that maybe I am not explaining it properly. It thought maybe it had to do with the gear ratios such as, as soon as I shifted into second there wasn't much of a drop down on the tach. There was however no grinding or slipping at all.

I'm not sure but this sounds like what my C4 was doing until I got new clutch! 3 thing to remember when buying a 964? PPI, PPI, PPI!

The car had a p.p.i. and nothing came up about the clutch and also it didn't grab high or slip from a standing start. Everything that showed up on the P.P.I. has been fixed and I also have gotten enough off the asking price were I will have a reserve for repairs. I feel that no matter how well a car checks out it is still 12 years old and parts will wear. I also got a longer warranty than the car came with previously.
