Front light glass - how easy to replace?
I need to replace the front glass on my headlight, is this a hard or easy job?
Approx time to do, any special tools needed?

Very easy. You have to replace the entire light assembly. Its held on with a single Phillips screw. The screw is at the bottom of the trim ring. The headlight is held on with a clip at the top and the screw at the bottom. It seems like it ought to have more but the factory has done it this way for a very long time and it seems to be sufficient.
Tools required: 1 Philips screw driver
Parts required: New headlight assembly.
Time required: 5 minutes or less.
You need to make sure you order a like replacement. Most US 964's have H5 headlights but some have been upgraded to H4's. If you look closely, you will see the H4 or H5 molded in the glass at the center of the lens.

With H4's you'll be able to buy just the lense. Once you've got that, you can just remove about 10 clips from the back of the light & take the glass off. You may want to take the oppotunity to replace the rubber seal at the same time (2 - one between the light & the car & the other between the lense & the actual headlight. A new lense is about £20. You will need to get your headlight re-adjusted afterwards though.

I've not seen any headlight assemblies (H4 or H5) where the glass is separate from the reflector. I recommend taking the headlight off your car and taking a look. You may be lucky and be able to use what you have.

C4 -JohnO, what part of the world are you from ?
In the US they have a system where the headlamp is an integral assembly. Here in the UK, the front glass lens is detachable, and you can purchase just the front glass for about £15.

Then its £15, did one of mine a few months ago. Watch the bottom head lamp securing bracket, both mine rusted through. Click here for one supplier
