Post Carrera II major service

I bought my 1991 Carrera II a little over a year ago, and it now has a little over 100K. on the speedo. It had just had it's major service, when I bought it. I have put 13,000 miles since then, so it is ready for another service. I plan to do all except the valve adjustment. I know the air and fuel filters need to be changed, as does with the oil and filter. I plan to change to Mobil One at this time. What else needs to be done, checked, etc?

I appreciate any advice.

Bill;

Check and see your condition of your cap and rotors, additionally I would check to see when you replaced your O2 sensor, and maybe start saving for a cylinder temp sensor. Check to see how your power steering belt is. And of course your distributor belt. Good luck.

Bill,

According to the Porsche Warranty & Maintenance manual, here is what is required every 15000 miles/24000 km. (By the way, I have a 1990 car, but I'm pretty sure the maintenance schedule is the same as for a '91.)

Change engine oil & filter.

Check valve clearance.

Diagnosis system: read out fault memory.

Visual inspection for leaks: oils & fluids.

Toothed belt for power steering pump: check condition.

Crankcase ventilation: check tightness of hose connections.

Fuel system: visual inspection for leaks, damages, clearance and tightness of line connections.

Intake air: check hoses, lines and connections for tightness.

Parking brake: check free travel of parking brake lever.

Brake pedal: check play of brake pedal. Brake hoses and lines: visual inspection for leaks, damage and corrosion. Check brake fluid level.

Brake system: visual inspecitoin of brake pads and discs to check for wear.

Clutch: check play or final position of clutch pedal.

Hydraulic clutch actuator: visual inspection for leaks.

Steering rack: check screw connections for tightness. Visual inspection of the bellows for damage. Tie rods: check play, tightness and dust caps.

Power-assisted steering: visual inspection for leaks, check fluid level.

Ball joints: visual inspection of dust caps for damage, Wishbone: check screw connections for tightness.

Manual transmission/axle drives: check oil level.

Automatic transmission: check fluid level.

Drive shafts: visual inspection of sleeves for leaks & damage.

Exhaust system: visual inspection for leaks and damage, check screw connections for tightness & attachment.

Tires: check condition and correct tire pressure.

Door stop: check operation and lubricate.

Door hinges: lubricate.

Check door, engine hood locks and safety hooks on front hood for tightness & operation.

Seals for doors, hood and roof: remove abraded rubber, apply suitable lubricant.

Safety belt: check operation and condition.

Check operation of vehicle lights. All headlights: check setting Horn: check operation.

Throttle linkage: check for smooth movement and full throttle opening.

Resonanz flap: check for smooth movement.

Check active cleaning system and fluid level.

Windshield washer, headlight washer: check operation, fluid level and nozzle settings, regard antifreeze content (editor's note: I'm assuming of the windshield/headlight washer solution) for the winter season.

Battery: check fluid level.

Check operation of all electrical control equipment and options.

Heater, ventilation, and air conditioner blower: check operation.

During road test or dyno test:

Brake pedal, parking brake, brake power assist unit, clutch, automatic speed control, steering, heating, air conditioner and instruments: check operation

Kick down: check operation.

Drive train, longitudinal- and lateral limited slip differential: check for noises & operation

Visual inspection for leaks: oils & fluids

Hope this helps!

OK, I know someone's going to ask, so I'll go ahead & list the 30000 mile/48000km service items while I have the list handy:

(everything in the 15000 mile list and...)

V-belt & polyrib belt: check condition & tension

Replace spark plugs (at least every two years)

Air filter: replace filter element

Automatic transmission: change ATF, clean ATF strainer or change filter resp.

Additionally required every 60000 miles/96000km

Manual transmission and axle drives: change oil

Automatic transmission: change oil in differential

Replace fuel filter

Required Every 2 years

Brake system: change brake fluid

Required after 4, 8, 10 and then every 2 years

Air bag system: check as per maintenance procedure.

Again, this is from my Porsche Warranty & Maintenance manual, which is for my 1990 car.

What about the chain gear/valve lift adjustment ? I'm told that at high miles the cam gear chains stretch and rquire the cam timing/valve lift to be re-set.
