My door sticker says 08/89 so I guess I shuldn't have the torx. Which might explain why I can't find 'em

So next question - when using the hacksaw blades, err, porsche special tool, do I apply pressure to the clips outwards or inwards to release? From the pictures it looks lke they are lined up top and bottom?

Thanks again

Its been a few years since I did this repair but you don't need to push either inward or outward. Simply pushing the tool into the slots was all that was needed.

I purchased mine from Vertex Auto (no affiliations) but most likely, you can get them from your favorite Porsche parts source too.

Default What about just a motor?

For $800, I'd almost bet you could find someone to rehab the motor, or even craft something similar to fit.

I've not (yet) had the pleasure to disassemble either interior blower motors or the engine compartment blower ... but any chance the engine compartment blower motor is similar enough? It's only $180 or so.

In my heater problem I only have this flap on Jeff’s superb picture on the passengers side left to check…. Is it common that this flap is stuck in a position…..or the pin, axel or what ever its called…is out off alignment….my servo seams to work and react on red and blue dots……I don’t want to do unnecessary job since this one is rather time consuming….

Well …I couldn’t wait….so I took the firewall out and opened the blower housing on the passengers side…..flap is what? Closed or open??……now I must reconnect all cables, and put some voltage on to test if the servo will close….hopefully not….which means I have found why I only gets hot air at that side!
The yellow arrow shows that I found a good opportunity with the firewall gone, to mount my new hood struts !

I wasted an hour doing just that.
I used one long thin screwdriver. Push it in on the top til it stops and twist and lever the tab downward (lifting the screwdriver handle upward unhooks the tab) while pushing down on the squirrel cage. The motor will tip forward.
Move to the bottom, push the screwdriver until it stops, twist and push the handle downward and pull the squirrel cage straight out and the motor pops right out. Total time: 30 seconds

polman,
the servos controlling the temperature flaps should mirror each other. when you want cold air the metal arms should both be pointing outwards (towards the fenders), and when you want hot they should be pointing inwards or towards each other.
in your pictures the passenger side servo is in heat mode (the flap is up and metal arm is pointing inward) and the driver side is in cold.
Can't say the flap is "open or closed" as when it moves it closes off one opening and opens up the other!

Wow...the prices on these motors appear to have gone through the roof. The left was ~800 from pelican and ~700 through Vertex. I have not checked Sunset but was wondering if anyone else had a source?

How about a DIY rebuild?

Thanks in advance!!

The motor cannot be disassembled without losing the balance.
My driver side motor would begin to chirp after 30 minutes of operation using the a/c. Spraying the bearings with aerosol anti-seize cured the issue and only cost $10 plus labor (free in my case).
