Post 964 under dash cover

Noticed that FVD do an under dash cover (to hide all the hi-fi wires etc etc) for the older 911s. Does anyone know of a supplier for the 964??

What does the 993 have? If it has such a thing it might fit the 964

Nope - checked a 993 this morning - completely different dash & fascia.

Anyway, I made a cardboard blank last night - I'm off to the fabricators next week to see if they can make me a nice carbon fibre one. If CF isn't suitable, maybe some other firm, yet flexible plastic.

Hell, if it works I'll get a few made!!

Guys

took template to plastic fabricator today. THinking of using 1.5mm black plastic sheet. Its stiff, but flexible. Can anyone suggest anything better - ie should I get it made with glass fibre or carbon fibre??

If I get a few made, does anybody want one??

Hi,
Not sure there's much point in CF under the dash - you won't be able to tell.

I wonder why you need one though? When I got my car, there were loose wires everywhere on the bottom of the dash. But the people who fitted my alarm / stereo thought it looked pretty untidy and sorted it out. Obviously there are still lots of wires if you look underneath but mine are all neatly tied and fastened. Unless you stick your head under the dash you won't see them.

I know the 993 panel doesn't fit, but what about the later 964 with passenger airnag, as these cars have the under-dash panel too...

Rob

I had one made and it fit - first time!!!

I made a template from cardboard and took it to a plastics fabricator - theu then used the template to make the thing with 2.5 or 3mm plastic.

It neatens up the underside of the dash considerably - and is a handy surface for mounting the oil coller switch that I put in!

I have a few pics of it somewhere at home if you want to see it.

Yes please (pics)! Have you still got the template? Also, how have you fixed it in place?

BTW, I'm also thinking of using thermoplastic sheet (which can be heated and moulded) as a backing for the boot carpet, to stiffen and define the luggage area more cleanly...what do you think?

pics will be tonight - it pits in place by interferemce - ie - its is a push fit, held in place in the many places where it hooks behind, ie, there are cut outs for the heating ducts and the cover slips over these just right.

What is the difference between the 993 underdash and the later 964 model? I thought that most of the interior of the 993 would fit the 993?

Thanks

Apparently, most of it doeas fit OK, but the dash has differences in the beam that runs across the car.

The latest edition of 911&Porsche World has got quite a good article - a guy who changed his 964 to a 993 interior.

Mark

1. take 1 large piece of carboard about 4ft x 2ft should do it.

2. Measure under dash and mark on cardboard to get a rough outline of hte panel.

3. Place the cardboard under the dash and mark cut outs for ventialtion units.

4. Temporarily stick/hold carboard in place & fine tune the template.

5. You may, at this stage, use the first 'rough' template to make a beter ew template.

6. Take template to a plastic fabricator and give him the template and £40.

7. Collect & fit your new under dash tray.

Seriously Mark, it is very very easy - as it is not a shaped, vacuum formed piece of kit. Its flat plastic cut to a shape. The plastic is thin enough to flex to contour down toward the footwells.

I think this is basically the 993 dash. I've seen one retro-fitted to an older 964 but apparently it was a pig of a job.
