I have found one that sounds like that, made by Heist or something like that, in Germany. It attaches only to seat belt mounting points and has the bars that go back to the rear seat/tunnel.
Jeff,

The DAS bar has a cross bar that joins the two seat belt mounting points, to which the feet of the rollbar attaches to. The rear attachment points are the swivel for the rear seat backs. I just put one in a few weeks ago, cost around $650 from Performance during a 20% off sale (which they still have going through today).

Something anyone considering installing race seats and belts without a rollcage of bar (i.e. with a harness bar)...... What will happen to your head and neck when the car rolls and the roof collapses but you can't move because you are strapped tightly in place? People have been badly hurt this way. Don't go there!!!

Some good rules to follow;

1. Don't install harnesses without a roll bar or roll cage.

2. Don't install harnesses without a race seat with shoulder slots for the belts. The belts can slip down the side of stock seats.

I used to have a Momo Rookie seat in my race car and the stock Porsche sliders bolted directly to the bottom with some minor mods. This resulted in great head room. However I believe that side mounted seats have much better structural integrity in a front or rear impact so I replaced the seat with a side mount Momo Nascar. This configuration does not deliver the same headroom.

PCA rules over good general guidance for safety equipment. They are on the Club Racing part of the PCA website pca.org.

I realize I'm reviving a thread that's over 10 years old but it seemed the most appropriate after searching. Found one for 993s but didn't want to assume...

I'm taking the Cobra Pro Evolutions out of my car, too narrow through the leg and hate the wrap around head rests.

I was dead seat on Recaro Pole Positions for some more width and a more realistic RS "look".

Problem is I hear that the belt holes for the two shoulder straps are too low for a guy my height. So the question is... what's the best race seat for someone who's 6'3"? Something that will sit low and back. I realize I'm going to have to go and plant my butt in them etc, but if we could arrive at a shortlist that would be appreciated...

Sean, are you sure you want a fixed back seat?

and...at 6'3", are you tall thin, tall football, tall basketball, tall swimmer or, well...ummm...ahh...tall like the Pillsbury Doughboy?

It all makes a difference - assuming here that you can't just run around the corner and try a bunch of seats.

Definitely staying with fixed back. Have 5 point Willans.

I'm 6'3" 210. 34" waist. So I'd say slim.

Am thinking about Sparco Evo 2 Plus.

I'm that tall and love my pole positions with the safety Devices cage. I do have to remove the butt seat pad In order to gain enough headroom and the geometry for the harnesses is right where it is supposed to be.

With road rallies, I think 12hr days without a butt cushion is going to kill me!

Pole Position shoulder strap holes are far too low for a person of your height.

As a Recaro dealer, I'd recommend Profi (narrow) or Profi XL's (wide) seats.

Thanks Steve.

Do you have the height from base to harness entry at the back of the seat for the Prof XL? The Sparcos have it on their specs at 24.4" for Evo 2 plus and those fit me well but Recaro don't list.

The Sparcos are higher overall (36" versus 34.5") but I don't want to assume this will translate into the harness entry point.

Thanks in advance for the help, if my local Recaro dealer in Singapore decided to show up for work once in a while this would be much easier. Shame they have sole distributor rights!

I'm 6' 0" and 195 lbs. I got the profi XL, and they fit me well. I used the sliding mounts, and my helmet touches the roof with a sunroof car.

Kiwi,

With your height once you have figured out the right harness geometry, you will also need to worry about headroom...If I didn't remove the butt seat cushion, my head its the roof and it isn't that comfortable that way, so something else to consider.

Have fun and try them on. You may also want to try to borrow a seat and install it to see how you fit with the shell seat.

Not sure where you are located, but if near Washington DC we could work something out as they are out of my car right now.

Finding the right racing shell seat is a real issue for tall guys. I didn't realise this until recently. I'm 6'4 205lbs 36W. The Recaro PP is not even close, just as Steve says. The Recaro SPG is way off as well and the Profi SPA has too high lower bolsters. The Profi SPG XL doesn't look right in my eyes (personal). That leaves the 996 GT3 seat, which tick all the boxes BUT it looks weird with the lollipop upper section. It looks a bit alien and out of place in the small 964/993 cabin and it limits visibility backwards. The 964RS/993RS/Speedster/968CS seats are all similar to the PP/SPG seats and have the same problem with the low harness holes. I'm looking at other options at this point but there really is not much to chose from. I for one would rather like a seat the looks period correct in the cabin, which is challenging to say the least for tall guys...

Hi there, yeah that's where I'm at with the existing Cobras. We'll probably mount the drivers seat permanently to get the head clearance I need. That, for me, is less of an issue as it's fabrication/ playing around. The harness height is the thing that is a real safety issue and there's nothing I can do about.

Thanks for the offer but I'm in Singapore at the moment and the car is in New Zealand!

I hear ya, which is why I was desperately after a Recaro solution. I can tell you, that if you want to throw looks out and go for pure function the Sparco Evo 2 Plus will do the trick. Perhaps a re-cover in leather will get it looking more factory for you?
