Hi Anthony,

A technical question,
Why first tighten the head studs to 15NM and afterwards an additional 90° turn ?
I know that's the offical procedure, but why the 90° ? And is it necesary to use a special tool for measuring the angle ?

Peter,

I heard of engines being torqued both ways, first is by straight NM or lb-ft values, second is NM/lb-ft then additional angle. Don't know the advantages or disadvantage of each. But you can see, the second method achieves roughly the same torque values.

As for the tool, I bought it at Autozone for $10. It's cheap and I wouldn't do this without it.
