Noises when taking hard corners
Hi All,
Finally decided to post this question that i've been holding off for a bit. I have a 90 964 C2 with PSS9's and stock sway bars. Every time I take a corner (left/right) i can her what sounds to be a rubbing sound in the back of the car. It only sounds when you take extreme turns (like trying to fish tail the back end). I took off both rear tires, inspected the rims/tires and wheel well, but nothing at all. I check the right rear oil line and that has no rub marks, not see any body/tire rubbing.
Spoke to TRG and they suggested maybe the rear bearings. What are those??
What are the symptoms of bad rear bearings?
Thanks

That sounds a lot like CV joints. I had one go bad on me at the track, it was fine on the straight but it sounded awful in the turns. I would check that first. Easy fix if it hasn't destroyed anything else.

If you have power steering is the fluid topped up? I rebuilt an engine an forgot about refilling the power steering fluid. Got a very nasty sound on turns - mostly left as I recall. Took a little while to figure out, but 3 bucks worth of power steering fluid was all it was. I too thought wheel bearing or CV joint. But nope, it was indeed the (lack of) power steering fluid.

Hi Marks,
Thanks for the input, but it doesn't "hum" when turning the steering wheel left or right. It only "hums" when you try to fish-tail on a left hander. How would one check the CV or right rear bearing?
Thanks

FWIW ... my reference to power steering fluid. No noise turning the steering wheel. But a nasty noise when the CAR is in a turn. Hard turns might suggest it's just low and not empty. I'd check it anway. Believe me, it was not a nice noise and I was completely convinced it was something serious.
