Steering upgrade?
The other day I saw a tip about upgrading the steering of a C2/C4 by replacing the track rod ends with turbo/RS pieces. I thought this only was a upgrade for older Carreras. Has anyone done this, is it worth the money? My C2 is lowered so this could maybe be a good fix to get the alignment better/sharper. Any opinions?

I asked Sam at Pelican last week about this and got the following part numbers and prices.
-Left and right Steering forks - uprated RSR forks
964-341-017-06 $367.48 Left
964-341-018-06 $367.48 Right
So not cheap really, think I'll give it a miss, but let us know if you do upgrade, would be interested to know what the difference is

It sounds like ThomasC2 would like to replace his tie rod ends with the equivalent of the pre-89 Turbo tie rods. Ade quoted on replacing the track arm with the Turbo unit, which isn't the same as the tie rods, but terminology in the original note wasn't clear (and perhaps I misread it). BTW, if I were to replace the track arm, I'd go with the Carrera RS part, front and rear, to get the harder rubber. This is especially evident for the rear, where the harder rubber neutralizes much of the Weissach axle affect.
ThomasC2, search the archives as I've posted in the past what the options are. Our production 964's use the same tie rod ends, however, there is a tie rod coupler, or fork, that hooks into the steering gear that has different hardnesses of rubber - that piece is the 964-equivalent to the Turbo tie rod upgrade. The hardest rubber is in the cup version. When I install the set I have, I'll report back on the change.

OK, maybe I wasn't crystal clear. I mean the steering arm/tie rod ends that attaches to the steering rack in one end and the hub in the other. The ad says the replacement arm is the same as on the RS and the Turbo. In the picture you can see a uniball in the end that attaches to the steering rack instead of the stock rubber/metal. There doesn't seem to be any rubber at all on the RS version. The ad also says "upgrade for Carrera 89-94. I tried the archives but didn't find anything

OK, thanks a lot for the info Bill! Strange though that Porscheshop in the UK has an ad in their latest catalogue where they show a totally different picture than the one in your thread. The picture shows a fork with a ball joint and no rubber, and the tie rod end has a different angel than the stock version. If they got the right parts, the picture must be wrong because your parts number are without a doubt correct.

Thomas, I saw that too and was intrigued. It just so happened that I was leafing through Paul Frere's book last night looking for RS suspension settings and found the EXACT diagram from the Porscheshop catalogue. It seems they lifted it from Paul's book and Bill is correct that it is a Pre-89 illustration.
