George

Passing by Autofarm the other day, I had a look at the RS Touring out of interest - didnt realize that it had the dual-mass clutch. Did this effect the drive at all, apart from making it quieter??

Strange vehicle in many senses - RS coloured leather "sports" seats - look odd but quite a nice vehicel overall & certainly in amazing nick!!

It was a strange car, but like you I quite liked it plus it was in superb condition and RHD.

The paintwork had been done by the same bodyshop (bodytechnics in Slough) that are repairing mine, so I am hoping the results will be as good.

The dual mass flywheel made a big difference, slower revving but much smoother to drive.

Quite simply I think the car is just too much money for what it is, at £30,000 I might have been tempted as it would have made a great unusual every day driver.

Just to finish off on your bodywork - I know a chap who wrecked his 993 C4S in a big crash bout 18mnths ago - Bodytechnics in Slough rebuilt it completely and I have to say that they did a beautiful job. In fact, he is now addicted to Zymol every weekend!!!

Hope yours works out well - I actually saw your car in Autofarm before you bought it & I thought it great value but needing loads of TLC - your spin will ensure that the body now gets extreme TLC so should push up the value immensely once its finished. I almost wish I could find the same kind of excuse (but only almost)!!!

Regards

Hi George,

I'm joining the long list who are glad to see that you have returned to your senses after your moment of madness! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> After all, you share the same name as my nephew in Philadelphia, and I wouldn't want to have to tar him with the same brush! What were you thinking, man?!?!?!?!? A TARGA!?!?!?!?!?!? (Sorry to all you Targa owners out there, but us Coupe guys are here for a reason!)

Anyway, just a quick note to say that my everyday driver for the last 30 months has been a '99 A4 with the sewing machine motor (ie. 1.8 Turbo). This is also a company car, and while I like the handling (and the convenience of Tip), definitely do yourself a favour and get the 3.0 motor. The engine is a tad gutless, and the turbo lag a bit much. The V6, however, is fabulous! Overall, the A4 is an excellent car and good value.

Go for it!

Marc

Thanks for the notes, Andrew and Marc

I have made a decision on replacing my 3 year old C240 sport estate, and that is to buy it off the company.

It has only done 65,000 miles and at £12,000 it will be depreciation proof for a few years.

Old Mercs might not be exiting, but they are a good reliable faithful companion (bit like a labrador!!!) and a lazy alternative to the RS if you are not in the mood to play, or you want to do something sensible like pick up sand and gravel!

Can't wait to get the RS back, really missing it and have had to turn down two fantastic track days.

I now have a fresh set of genuine Mag cup wheels to bolt on as well, so with a new paint job it should look great.
