Come on guys give me a break!!!!

I had years of using a 911 as a second car and as I have not got a garage any more I have had to use this one as a daily driver.

I do absolutely love it, but it is inconvenient being a left hooker, and it is a harsh uncomfortable car for daily use.

I am now at a point where my company Merc is going back so I want to spend more money on a more reliable later car that will be my main every day vehicle, if I had the money I would keep the RS as a track car.

Sorry but I have always loved the 993 Targa I think it just looks stunning with the full length glass roof, and A/C and soundproofing are very appealing for everyday use.

Come on guys it's not is if I am suggesting buying a 316 BMW!!!!!

and....don't ask me why I liked the RS touring. It just felt like a really pleasant car to drive.

So if anyone is intersted in buying a freshly painted RS, you know where I am!!!

A BMW 316 would preferable to a 993 Targa.....

I can sympathise with George a bit - I like 993s myself, but I'm very dubious about the targa bit. It does all make the Forever Lightweight part of the signature look a bit dodgy though.

I'm more worried about Greg. You have a turbo, but you've decided you like the look of 996s? Try to fight this appeal very hard - just remember, the grass isn't really always greener on the other side!

This is what I like so much about this forum On the one hand we're "complaining" about the faults of our car, and how much it costs to fix it up again, but on the other hand these types of threads actually show what we really think!

Just the mere thought of selling a 964... that's not a politically correct thought

A horrible puney underpowered four cylinder engine in a car with dynamics designed for 200 bhp.

I know the "forever lightweight" tag looks like b*llsh*t..........and my friends it probably is!!!

If my car returns from the bodyshop looking as good as I hope then it makes sense to keep it. It would be a huge wrench to sell it.

Over the last 7 months I have spent nearly £8,000 on it (the gearbox is perfect Christer, just a bit stiff when cold!!) and it would be nice to run it at least for a couple of years, it also looks as if I have managed to get a good garage to rent close to my house so it can at least now live a slightly more pampered existence.

So.....the next decision is what to buy for £35,000 to replace my three year old Merc C240 sport estate, which has been a lovely lazy comfortable car?

It needs to be ideally german, auto, 4 seats and not a BMW!

Merc CLK 320?
New Audi 3.0 convertible?
Audi S3?
Golf V6 4 motion?

Depends a lot on what you want from your replacement of the C. Personally, I would opt for an Audi A4 3.0 Avant Quattro. Its classy, refined, quick and very new, so less likely to look old in 5 years time.

The S3 is too brash, the Golf too common, but the CLK is also quite nice (albeit a bit old now, been out 4 years).

By the way, I'm glad you've come back to your senses! Forever lightweight lives on!

The A4 3.0 convertible is favourite at the moment

Looks superb and at £32,000 the sport version with auto, leather and a few toys is not bad value

but I do like sporty estates so I will take a look at the avant as well

I should really have only one car but I like my CLK too much to let go, 4 adult seats and still a coupe, and decent luggage space. Only problem in the UK is that its become common. Obviously good value for money.

Or a new 'C' class, AKA a mini 'S' class, looks good and parctical.

BMW M3.

I drove one a couple of months ago for about 15 minutes or so. It may not appeal to everyone but you need to give one a test drive. I mean you REALLY need to.

It's comfortable and of good quality. And it will give your RS a clip round the ear as well.

No Targa available though...

I think the new M3 looks too much like a footballers car, but I don't dissagree about performance, I drove a '93 M3 and I thought it was pretty quick.

I do think the new C class looks great but....I have driven one and although much improved I thought the quality has slipped, felt a bit like a 406 or Vectra inside

My old C class is probably the last of really well built mercs

A4 convertible is still favourite (hope it comes with heated rollers and a home perm kit!!!)

Go for a £5K VW Golf, then buy a 993 with the change and keep the RS for track days.

Not to labour the point - the new M3 is a completely different animal to the old ones. I'd still go for a test drive.
