Default Still surprises me even after 3.5 years

Was out yesterday evening, in the rain. When I was getting close to home, I had a clear run on some dual carriageway.

Obviously I only got up to 69.9mph - but just to make the story more exciting let's pretend it was more like 100mph. As I came to the traffic lights, I left it fairly late and then stamped on the brakes - sure the ABS would activate.

But it didn't. I got very powerful, controlled braking on a wet road. Was quite amazed at how fast it stopped, and how much grip I had.

My daily car is much newer, and has airbags everywhere. I'm still fairly certain that the 964 is safer though.

Pretty good when I'm still pleasantly surprised by a 15 year old car which I've owned 3.5 years.

Agree!
Not only the braking but also the performance is pretty impressive for a 15 year old car!

Even considering the losses through the transmission my 250 bhp car still outruns quite a few new cars with closer to 300 bhp on tap...

Dave,

I know what you mean!! These cars were built well! Took mine out on Friday & managed to get a 0-60 in 5.4 secs (bought a G-Tech Pro). Not bad for a 14 year old car in the wet & I feel that I could have done better if I'd done more than just 2 runs!!

Have to agree with both comments above. There is a 450 degree (?!?) entry ramp onto the M11 at Loughton followed by what is often a a clear stretch of M-way in front. The cornering, acceleration and noise still take my breath away after 3 years. Not much braking here though.

err..it wasn't dry, maybe more..damp conditions, and very slightly up hill with a little wheel spin!! My car just feels very quick. Chalk & cheese vs. my old C4. I'll take you out for a spin on Sunday! (I'll bring the G Tech!)

What weight did you put in? You've a C2 and I've a C4 but I've been waiting to get to a truck weigh station to see what my car weighs before trying out the GTech I got a few weeks ago.

Marc,

I didn't bother with the weight as you only need that for a HP calculation. For a 0-60 or standing quarter it works off of the amout of g-force involded in the acceleration curve. I'd be intertesting to find that out how heavy my car is though!! Anyone know how much a C2 would weigh with Air Con, Sunroof, rear wiper, just over half a tank of fuel? (Oh and a few Cd's and some junk in the door pockets?!)

Greg,

No worries! And I seem to remeber you considering the LWF so you can get an idea of what to expect with that too.

Yep, all in the name of a bit of fun!! It'll be interesting to see how Christer's car does!! I only managed a 5.68 (from memory) in my old C4 whilst using Piers' G-tech, so it was nice to see the difference between that and the C2!

Actually, it would be interesting to see how much rubber I can burn when trying. I am thinking if I get below 6 seconds then I will be happy.

Christer,

It suprising how much grip these cars can develope!! Maybe if someones got a stop-watch we could time 50-70 or something!! It'd be interesting to see the differences between a C4 & a C2 if it's wet.

Its not so much false modesty as the fact that I have tried this before and I burned quite a lot of rubber....but I will give it a go if we find a place to do it.
