Thanks Smokin. I put the plastic piece in boiling water for about 30 secs, let it get soft, then bent it a little to make the pin stay towards the track and held like that under running cold water until it waas solid again. Now it's tight and works great! ( Learned this method to tighten up my sunglasses.) Thanks again.

So what's it look like? Do you have any pictures? The new and improved version doesn't seem to be much of an improvement!

My ashtray will not close because its missing the entire pin/arm/tab whatever you want to call it that is supposed to fit into the track (pic from earlier post). This is driving me mad. Anyone have any idea where I can purchase this piece online?

I feel so lucky as my iPhone holder (ashtray) is perfect in my wrecked parts car, so I am transferring it into my new 964 that has a tray that will not close. Maybe I will try the bend the plastic piece trick first. Whatever is easier, swapping or boiling.

The factory doesn't list that arm as a separate part #. Its bundled with the ash tray assembly (964-552-923-00). I would try contacting one of the used parts vendors like DC Auto or Parts Heaven.

FWIW mine acts up as well and I've discovered there's a bit of a technique required to get it to latch closed. I try to sort of briskly snap it closed, and hold it there for a second. Sometimes it takes 2 or three tries, but it usually works.

When mine doesn't close, I found that if I open it and ensure that it comes all the way open, then it will usually close. If you take the closing mechanism apart, you will see that lever rides in a track. If it doesn't open all the way, the lever never moves to the close section.

I have a brand new ash tray assembly in a box. I'd be willing to sell it to someone in need. $75 plus shipping.
