On Arjan's "Very Few 964s in California" thread, I made a few posts about replacing my regulator. The rattle with the window not-fully-up is now gone (not that the window regulator is the only thing that might cause a window rattle). Interestingly, I found no (obviously) broken rollers. So, I guess the rollers just wore out. Besides no longer rattling, the window hasn't stuck fully-up since replacing, and operates nice and smoothly.
Arjan has been encouraging me to sell my old regulator on e-bay. Say, at 50% of list price. A real steal.

I think I need to replace the motor in my drivers side. Is this a really involved R&R - I have had the door panels off for a bbit of a look and cannot see how I will get that motor out???

Here's a picture of my new regulator as it was being installed. Of course, the motor turns gears attached to the regulator.

Ok, I fixed my rattle. When the window was right up, there was some 'slack' in the regulator which meant that the jockey wheel at the rear was able to wobble about, leading to the rattle. All I had to do was loosen the Allen bolt holding the rear end of the runner and move the runner up slightly, thus eliminating the rattle. Easy!
