Cool Cab wind screen

Hi,
I own a lovely 91 C2 cab. I had the oportunity to purchace a new wind screen ( the one that fits behind the seats) for a very reasonable priceon E-Bay. The screen was for a 98 I believe but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I had seen an ad by one of the listed vendors here and the part numbers were the same for the 91 and the later ones. Now having the screen and no directions I can't seem to figure how it attaches. Has anyone used these on a cab and can a late model style fit the 91 yera car ?

Thanks

Tom

I have never tried fitting a windscreen behind the seats, do you intend to drive fast in reverse?

Call me old fashioned, but I would fit it in the large hole in front of the dashboard!!!!

I looked into getting one of these a few years back on my 86'. As I recall there were (2) different styles. One that mounted permanantly via screws and another that was sort of a springloaded shower curtain sort of thing that was easy to put in and replace. I assume you must have the kind which screws in as the springloaded one (I assume) would be pretty self explanatory. The one that screwed in place had some directions on drilling holes in the rear quarter panels or something to that effect.

The manufacturer (I think) was Windward or Windway. Something like that.

In case you have the springloaded one, there is one aspect that might not be obvious if you don't have all of the parts. You need to swap out the plastic covers on the holes for releasing the top with special covers that come with the unit. Then the legs of the unit can fit into these.

Following up on Tom's post, if you have the "spring loaded" folding windscreen (i.e., the factory windscreen), the "W" shaped metal frame should rest on the backs of the rear seats (which should be in down position), the two plastic arms should fit into the special caps on the side panels, and the hooks on the two fabric straps should attach to loops in the rear corners of the cabin (which are accessible only if the rear seats are in the down position). Good luck!

Cool

Hi,

Yes I have the spring type but when I remove the plastic covers for the top pivit bolts there is no place for the spring square posts from the screen to go into. Is there a cover or a replacement bolt that needs to changed ? Thanks for the info on the top release covers needing to be changed. Hope the dealer will be able to supply these.

Thanks again for the help

Just for clarification, I think that what you are calling the "covers on the top pivot bolts", I am calling the "top release covers". We are talking about the same things. Yes, they need to be changed. New ones come with the windscreen when you buy it new.

Tom,
The part number in question is a 000-043-202-97. They are two plastic inserts that replace the plastic plugs on the panels in the sides of the back seats. (There not cheap $18 a piece) The new inserts have reinforced holes to hold the arms that support the windscreen. Another trick that is helpful is after the windscreen is installed fold the back seats up. That provides support for the rear metal resting arm.

Hope this helps.

Anyone have experience using a windscreen and a DAS rollbar? Am I right in assuming I'll have to choose one or the other? I don't mind the wind, but my GF is pretty supportive of the windscreen. Does it make a lot of difference?

Thanks,
TD
