Here are some pictures of my lexan windows from Scott at Spektr Products. I just completed the detail fitting to my GT2 Evo door. The lexan he uses is scratch resistant and I can tell you from working with it (carefully) it is resistant to scratches.
Which windows did you have made out of Lexan? Just the doors? I remember seeing a guy who had a Lexan rear window fitted flush, unlike the the normal glass windows which is inset a little bit. Just wondering.
How much weight are you saving with the carbon/lexan doors?
Are you going to paint the doors?
Lookin' good!
Brian
Every window in the car except the Windscreen will be lexan and flush mounted with 1/4 turn fasteners so they can be removed easily. I wanted the door windows because I have an open trailer and wanted to be able to trailer it in the rain without much water getting inside. I had sliders put in so I can drive with the windows in place and 1/4 turn fasteners so I can remove them easily.
The doors with windows weigh 10.5 lbs compared to 70+ for a stock door. I'll paint the exterior of the door but just clearcoat the carbon fibre inside. The door has a built in mirror and I'm contemplating leaving the mirror in carbon fibre if I can figure a way to make the transition look good. These doors are Getty Design doors and are made from a wet layup process so they weigh about the same as a fiberglass door. If you used the same process Robert Linton uses, the door would be much nicer and weigh 5-7lbs. As it is, these doors fit well with no modification.
Ah! That's the one, Anatol! It's funny, but I think it's the small touches that really make the difference. I love the way that rear window fits flush. It's silly, I guess, but for some reason it really does it for me. Thanks for the pic!
Geoffrey,
Keep us posted on your progress. That's quite a substantial weight savings. I knew the carbon fiber doors would be light, but I didn't think they'd be that light. Don't be shy with the camera!

Geoffrey,
Very nice looking work.
I have the same side windows on my Cup car (and a lexan rear window as well).
The only problem I had was the nuts/bolts rubbing against the side head bolster on my Recaro ProRacer SPG's. Ended up with a hole in the fabric after a bit
Easy fix: I just turned the bolts around so the (smooth) bolt head is on the inside and the locknut is on the outside.....lazy fix, I know.
I just visited this forum as I think I wants 964. Lexan is a GE product and Macrolan is by Sheffield plastics. Lexan mr10 is quite abrasion resistant and the Macrolan may be. The mazrolan should be Hyzod AR (abrasion resistant). A trick to consider with this stuff is to put anti-vandal low tack film over it. This is what the racers tear off to get a clean windshield.
