Post replacing door handle

hola los amigos...

was wondering if i needed to take the door handle assembly off to replace the door handle paddle.

wanted to replace my faded door handles, but notice there is a pin that holds it to the door.

any history on this one?

thanks

Me too!
I was ordering a bunch of stuff of Performance Products including new interior door handles. When I went into the garage to install them, I was stumped by the same thing. I know I don't want to take my entire door skin off to replace a handle.

....so the new door handles are sitting in the parts bin.

Simple answer is no you don't have to take all the door panel assembly off. IIRC you do have to take the bin off (there are 6 or so screws - not hard and goes back easily) and then you can access the workings of the interior door handle and make the change.

Good News is that it has to be pretty easy once you get the bin off as Old Cloth-hands here (that would be me) managed to do it!

Along the same lines, does anyone know if you have to alter the outer door skin to fit 993 handles to the 964.

I saw some fitted to a car last year but the owner wasn't around to ask.

Hey Scott, what were you going to do with the old handles? I might be interested.

Wellsy, I have researched this and the answer is NO. 993 doors are the same as the doors from a 964 and even older, like the SC and S...there may be some MINOR differences, but I wouldn't know what they are as the door panels are VERY similar, the window mechanisms, etc. are EXACT.

Checkout www.betterbodiesmotorsports.com - they make a pair of "repro" 993 handles out of injection molded plastic, just as the originals are for $200.

NOW, from what I understand, FACTORY 993 door handles are less than $100 each if you find someone to discount the parts for ya.

I will look into this as I have considered the "upgrade" just for that "trick" look.

Have you considered painting your existing door handles to match your car? Very cheap mod, even when done professionally. Personally I dismantled everything and took them to the paintshop. Looks so much better.

I installed a set of these door handles (not from this supplier) last year and they look great.
