Off topic: Nasty experience with 996T driver
A cautionary tale, guys.
Driving on a local fast A-road yesterday, came up behind a Grey 996 Turbo with a very 'short' number plate. Enjoyed being the presence of greatness for a while, but wasn't sure whether the driver was planning to go for it, or if he was a bit more 'mature' (the plate alone probably wasn't far off my c4 in value!)
Came to some slower traffic, space to overtake, so I dropped to third, and waited for him to go first - he didn't go, so I indicated, and overtook. This was when he decided he too would overtake after all, and I was forced over as he pulled out, so we were suddenly 3 cars across a two lane road!
The road was still clear, and the c4 still felt composed, so I carried on, passed the traffic and continued enjoying the drive.
The road lead to a motorway 10 mins later, and rain had come on really heavy. In my rvm, suddenly saw VERY quick approach of expensive headlights behind -same guy.
Pulled over to let him past, but he pulled parallel. Thought he was going to wave, but looked over and saw a guy in sunglasses going completely ape, obviously snarling and shouting/swearing. He then pulled in front, hit his anchors hard so I had to do the same, then swerved away off at the next junction. This is all at 90mph with wipers on at fast speed.
I would be the first to advocate responsible driving of a 911. This guy obviously thought I had decided to overtake him, whilst HE overtook -which of course is ridiculous.
Perhaps we were both a little at fault - but the whole 'revenge' thing left such a bitter taste in my mouth. I guess anyone driving that value of car might be more likely to be an agressive person, less likely a true enthusiast?.. - so next time I'm in that situation, I'll keep well clear...

Could be the same idiot that I was stuck behind on the Donnington track day. Took off down the straights (all that HP). Then started braking way early thus I caught him up under braking then he crawled round the corners before booting it back down the straights. Refused to pull over and let the faster traffic through. In the end I dropped back to give myself a clear track. Still caught him again by the end of the session.
Just because you have a great car does not mean you know how to Drive it.

Would this have been Donington on 22nd May with PCGB?
I was there in my dusty yellow RS, sadly the two grey 996 turbos in my session were somewhat quicker than me ;-), so much so that I suspected a major power boost and slicks.....
So they never got in my way because I never really caught up with them. So I can't possiby comment on their track-hogging abilities.
Nearly every track day has a w*nker that hogs the track and won't get out of the way; one expects Porsche owners to be more civilised, but it apepars w*nkerdom is not isolated to the lower classes! Hopefully the marshals will spot this kind of activity and black flag them, but on that day I found the marshalling a little lacklustre.

Three Wheelin'
I came across grey 996T a few weeks ago on A3 near Guildford driven by bloke with dark glasses! Suspect most 993T owners are 'dark glass wearing on overcast day' types. He came up behind me v close v fast in fast lane and basically forced me to pull over even though there was car in front of me! I value my life more than ego!
I gave him the finger. What a w..nker!

I had trouble with a turbo at Donnington too but it was a maroony colour car.
He kept overtaking me on the right. I confronted him after he did this 3 times (+ once on the cool down lap!) and he said "I didn't know that" and went back to his mobile phone.
Complained to Kevlin who had had other complaints. Let's hope Steve does something.

How pleased I am to have found your website, John! Some lovely pictures including loads of the RS contingent (and me) at Highclere last year. Are you going to Branham Park in July?
The Donington PCGB day annoyed me not so much with the people on track - bearing in mind the many inexperienced Porsche owners who don't know the rules and seem to ignore the "briefings" and their content - as the marshalling.
For example, the sad crash that totalled the 930 Carrera and sent its' owner to hospital for a checkup was in my "advanced" session; I saw no yellow or red flags and the overhead lights were not lit, yet suddenly everyone slowed down and paraded around into the pits. I was initailly confused; the guy I was chasing - may even have been a gray 996 Turbo - suddenly slowed yet kept to the racing line and I spent some considerable time debating whether or not to undertake him and be damned. Until I arrived at the scene of the crime.
After we'd parked up and wandered over to the pit wall, *then* the lights came on. Not the best.
