Talking Yahoo!! Car Dyno'd!

Hello

Off to watch my car be Dyno'd at Porsche in Melbourne. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Had the clutch changed yesterday, along with some other work. Just waiting for the bill!

The car is a stock, no mods, 964 '91 Turbo. Will post the results if anyone is interested...

In the mean time - here's the engine dropped out:

Well done Kevin. Great shot of your motor. It must be nerve racking to have major work like that done & see your car in pieces in the workshop. Will be interested to see the results of the dyno test.

I like that yellow fan in the background
I just had mine painted (red) and it really lifts the look of the engine bay.

Ok,

Gotta say, I'm relatively happy with the result since it shows how well these engines last. The dyno showed the car to have 241.5 hp at the rear wheels, which I believe is multiplied by 1.32 to show hp at the flywheel...

The result is 318.78 hp at the fly.... which is pretty much what Porsche say is the output of the engine: 320!

Any comments welcomed - good or bad.

I sat in the car during the test.... what fun!! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

Here is the printout:

32% would be a huge correction factor. My 993 has 247RWHP which was reckoned to correspond to 292 at the crank - 18-22% is a typical correction for 964 or 993.

John

Have to say that I thought that at the time, but was assured that this was a universal figure....

Interesting! But with the car said to be 320hp in stock form, what factors would influence that such that my hp rating was much lower?

Any ideas?

How many miles has the car done?
When was the last time the injectors were serviced?
Have you had a leak down/compression test done to see if there is anything in there to suggest below par performance?

There are a lot of things it could be, especially if the performance deteriorates very slowly over time as you would not feel it happening.

I would get it checked out if I were you. A tthe moment you have only about 35rwhp more than I assume I have, and about 10rwhp less than a fellow 964'er here with AMD chip and mass air conversion....!

Mind you, what is 65% 'ramp rate'?

Christer

done 75000 km.

Haven't had anything checked... no oil leaks tho, and dunno when injectors were last checked...

What's a leakdown test?

65% ramp angle is what they set the dyno at... kinda like a resistance like climbing a hill.

Not sure what the variation is or if its standard?

15% is a pretty reasonable correction for transmission & other losses. So, a 320 HP 'should' make about 272 at the rear wheel. We don't really know what this correction factor & "65% ramp" are. It seems a bit strange to me, but then it may be a 'weird' dyno.

Kevin,

On a turbo first thing to check would be what boost pressure is being achieved, preferably measuring it across the rev range. If your engine is achieving the specified boost (sorry, don't know the figures for your car) then the power deficit is elsewhere - which could be poor compression (the leakdown test mentioned in an earlier post checks this), fuelling problems (e.g. clogged/gummed injectors, inadequate fuel pressure) or ignition problems (plugs, coil). If the boost isn't being achieved then start checking for leaks, turbo problems or wastegate problems.
