Default 300HP Everyday?

Is the 964 NA capable of being built to 300hp @ the crank for a long-life engine. One capable of passing emissions in all states?

Thanks,

Yes, it is totally possible but it isn't so cheap. To get more you need to spend exponentially more...

And over the "long-term" you'll pay more in gas, too - since I am sure you are guzzling a considerable amount versus a stock engine... overall, an expensive proposition!

It is the same thing as when I bought by V8 Toyota Sequoia - if you gotta ask what the gas costs, then you probably can't affort it.

Christer, it's the mpg that'll cost ya', and the speeding tickets that the extra horsepower will cost ya'! Now on the track, that's a different story!

On a related note, it is nice to know that the engines and drivelines were engineered to handle that much power.

Yep.

I also agree with Christer on the fuel consumption. If you have to worry about paying the fuel bills of a Porsche you should not have one. They have never been fuel efficient mainly due to the weight of the right foot. Sports cars and low fuel consumption do not mix
I have not noticed any major increase in my fuel bills even though I have switched to 98 Super Plus up from 95 Super. Maybe on the longer trips like to Le Mans but I doubt it.

Ah yes, the right foot quotient. The more powerful the engine the heavier the right foot.

Does anyone know the ratio for that formula? I forgot.

All that I'm aware of, is the end result, as Adrian, Christer, And Garrett have explained. But who cares, burn it up, thats what its there for Eh?

i agree totally about the fuel thing.
imho, the cost of fuel is a very small price to pay for owning a fast/powerful car.
before i bought my Porsche, i owned a 5 litre V8 and a 5.7 Litre V8 after that and people used to ask me with horrified looks on their faces, how much my fuel bills used to amount to, and i couldn't tell them 'cause i really didn't know and quite frankly, i didn't care either!
and come to think of it i don't even consider the cost of fuel to be a "price" to pay as the sheer pleasure more than compensates for it! With my Porsche i reckon the pleasure factor can be multiplied by about 100!
cheers

OK...so where's the big expense? 3.8 p/c's. I don't think you can touch the cams and still pass emissions here in California. Heads to get a bit of a rework. What else? lightweight rods?....Maybe we should start off w/what's $$$.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't know for sure, I but I think just going with 3.8 p/c's won't get you to 300HP.

I am, though, very interested with the details, too, of what goes into reaching the 300HP level - I know Adrian's webiste goes into it a bit.

If I were to make a 3.8 that might have a chance passing CA smog, I'd go with 3.8 p/c's, titanium springs and retainers, mooned cylinder bases, knife edged crank. Using the stock DME, exhaust, cams & injectors will hopefully keep it smog legal - but not as powerful as it can get. I don't know anyone that has a 3.8 that's smog legal... do you?
