This is always a heated topic. For what its worth mine is behind the tool shed. Knowing now they are 1400 bucks I think it might just end up in the shed now.

Yeah... I wonder where the market is for these things... even if I sold mine for half at $700 I'd make out like a bandit - it just drips oil on the concrete behind the garage!!!

I not only took the engine cover off I took off the side and rear engine tray pieces and the engine breaths much better. I left on however on engine tray piece that kisses the clutch housing area.

You might want to reconsider putting the rear & side engine tins back in place. Without them you have extremely hot air coming off the catalytic converter and very hot air coming off the primary & secondary mufflers that gets sucked into your intake. The engine cooling fan is also blowing that already heated air through the heat exchangers and over the top of your motor. You'd rather have the air coming from outside and above at ambient temperature instead of superheated by your exhaust. If your rear tin is removed what did you use to connect your heat exchangers to the engine cooling fan?

For clarity, you took off the aluminum-covered lower engine casing surround on 3 sides? Did you also take off the engine tin that is painted black, sits flat, and surrounds the engine around it's middle (which is above the lower engine caseing mentioned above)?

Funny thing, last week I took my car in for a major service at a local independent shop, it went in without an undertray but came out with one on! I went back and asked why they put it there and the lame excuse for fitting another customers undertray was that they thought I would like it! Like it, I almost fell over laughing, that was until I found my airbox broken, the bottom clip missing, the brakes had air in the lines, the PDAS was not bled because they did not have a hammer and some engine surround bolts missing! That the short of the sory I dont want to go into the story about how the mechanic was trying to convince me you dont need a hammer to fully bleed a C4 system....I have an undertray you can have if you want it.

I say sell your new undertray and use the money to take your car to a shop that's not completely filled with knuckleheads!

Aside from arguements about what the undertray does or doesn't do, another thing worth thinking about is the cost you pay your mechanic to remove it and replace it every time they do any work on the engine - I guess it adds up over time................

Jamie,

Good point, I remember seeing "remove/install power unit cover" on a quote and thinking I need not pay that because I dont have one, I seem to recall it was a significant number.

That's amazing they charge for its removal - you need one tool - a 10mm socket, and there's only 10 or so screws to remove!!!

Do they charge to get in and out of your car to pull it on the lift, too?!
