You didn't say where you are located, however, I have one off my C2 which I'd sell. email or pm me if interested.

Not intending to start another "why leave it on or take it off" thread.... based on experience in the years following the 964 and 993, with the additional heat of the 3.6L engine contributing to reduced valve guide life, the general consensus is that it's best to leave the undertray off. Also, putting it back on for winter driving makes sense to keep salt/ winter crud off the engine.

Hi Bill....

I believe that porsche C2 is in Florida, so your comments about the undertray are right on. However, Porsche C2 - if you don't take Bill up on his terrific offer to buy his - let me know, as I may have one I can ship down as well. But - based on where you live, I'm not certain it makes sense??

Best to you,

John

And if you happen to pass through La Jolla on your way to wherever... you can have mine that's sitting in the back of the house next to the secondary muffler, bothering my wife!!

Wow, $1402 for a plastic tray. That's absolutely incredible. Good thing you didn't just go ahead and buy it from the dealer.

Wow... this is weird. Someone actually wanting to buy a tray... Prepare yourself, as you will be overwhelmed with PMs... Some of the folks here use them as sleds so you will have to wait until summer to get it...

BTW - I have mine off, you are welcome to it, not perfect, but free if you really want it.

Hmmm...not sure about this one,I have the undertray still on my car and considered taking it off but left it on because I hit a piece of metal sitting in the road that bounced under the floor pan before being spat out the back of the car,it got the car on a ramp and saw a deep groove in the undertray caused by the metal I hit,the tray is there to protect the engine and thats exactly what it did also they make a great oil drip tray.

I keep mine on for the same reason. Judging from the damage it has sustained over the years, I'd say it is worth keeping just for engine protection. I am not convinced the engine will run much hotter with it in place.

Just like dove had mention if it wasn't for the tray he would had probably sustained serious damage . Would it make a difference if the tray is on or off when doing 70mph or 100mph on the highway? Or it does'nt make a difference with the cover on or off at such speed?

Net, the factory put them on to aid aerodynamics and reduce noise, to a degree. However, the 964 Cup cars were delivered without them. Experience from people who spend alot of time around engines says running without the tray is an aid to valve longevity, as the 3.6L production engines started pushing the limits for air-cooling. Everyone agrees that the trays are useful for inclement weather in environments where salt or de-icing materials are used on the roads, or if you habitually run over chunks of metal .

I can see the point in the cup car not having the tray being an out and out racer and I'm sure there are other pieces missing from the road car, I will say that there are all sorts of objects on the roads didnt someone here post that they hit a milk crate recently and somebody "bounced" over a piece of wood in the road. What I ran over was a flat piece of metal that I could not see whilst driving. Our cars are essentually road cars and are prepared so by the factory to cope with such hazards.
